Good question about who the next manager could be (not uncle Roy please); whoever, he (she???) must put the first job as “ do a Jimmy on Harry” - you have been great but times up.

The best team by far in the tournament deserved to win yesterday, England were in the final by skin of their teeth and apart from the semi-final never really got going having to dig deep to gain victory.

I have always believed we would not win any tournament while Gareth Southgate is England manager, hoping he would prove me wrong yesterday, alas not to be and he remained with the same old format, did not get the best out of his very talented players by being too cautious and unwilling to make changes .

It was a difficult watch last night to see the gulf between the two teams, Spain far superior as a team.

Time for a new manager and make plans for next tournament.

As much stick as he's getting, he will be very difficult to replace.

I've never seen a manager to get so much public battering after multiple tournaments, but still have the backing of staff and players.

I hope he's involved in the FA at the very least for years to come.

Even though he hasn't gotten England over the line, he's a testament to what is there and coming through at the moment potential wise.

I do think though the likes of the Premiership and Championship teams need to take a long hard look at themselves, and start nurturing local talent again, to allow for the pool of talent to be there, instead of consistently looking abroad for the "the next big talent".

Well said, the pundits also have a role to play, they are all 'experts' but not one would step up..
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

could deffo see my 100kg self whizzing up and down the wing, fixing that left hand side issue Southgate has :thumb:
They said I just missed out at trials though. Pickford called me a fat c*nt when I pointed out his T-rex arms.

I have just looked at the BBC news and I can't see that news item

Apparently Newcastle's Eddie Howe is in the running

I like Southgate as manager but it is hard to see how he can carry on - back to back euro finals but it is a results sport

Do we want an English coach or a winner? Are they mutually exclusive as they seem to be!

Outside of the major tournaments does anyone really care - football supporters first allegiance is too their club - Man Utd fans had a chant, can't remember how it went of Utd over England.

Not one English coach has won the Premier league as yet, Dalglish and Ferguson both Scottish have, and cannot see any English coaches capable as yet to do so, Eddie Howe perhaps the best chance. So to answer your question, we need a winner.

I didn't realize that - who managed Blackburn when they won the title?

Looked it up : Kenny D

Arsene Wenger was in the VIP stands watching - don't mind him

I think it should be an English coach, its our national team. Speaking as a very casual football watcher I think Southgate didn't get the best out of a very talented team, it felt very cautious to me keeping Kane and Walker when there were more dynamic options, the game plan seemed timid but he has got us to two finals. Spain looked to me to be the best team from the start of the tournament and got a deserved win.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Southgate has quit, saying 'It's time for a change'.

Southgate had probably taken the team as far as he could and it does him credit that he hasn't tried to hang on for one more go. There are few football managers who go out on a high at a time of their choosing.

Indeed. He's achieved alot in his time in charge. And whilst his choices of strategy over this competition weren't to everyone's tastes, it delivered right until the last moment.
I wonder who's fault it's going to be when England achieve oh fudge all from now on?

Southgate resigns

"As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England," said Southgate.

"It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.

"But it's time for change, and for a new chapter."

I thought he was a breath of fresh air (as I said when he was appointed)he said he was going to do it his way and he did.Took a lot from the media who were continually sniping at him.I would have him as a manager. He got a team of fairly average players to two Euro finals in a row.How many of his predecessors came close to that yet most of them are revered.

Kyle walker : some said he can't hit a barn door but the Man City Defender's CV is impeccable - one of the best.

"England full-back Kyle Walker has been named in the Euro 2024 team of the tournament alongside six players from champions Spain.

The Manchester City defender played every minute for England in Germany as the Three Lions finished runners-up.

It is the second time in succession Walker has made the team of the tournament, having done so in 2021 when England were beaten by Italy in the final at Wembley.

The team of the tournament was picked by a panel of 12 "technical observers" including David Moyes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Rafa Benitez."
