Fassberg Tag der Bundeswehr 8th June 2024
As I was in the area anyway for the Tiger meet at Schleswig, I thought I would give this open day a try. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but as it is a base where it is virtually impossible to see anything from the outside it seemed like a chance not to miss.
Static display
Tiger UHT 74+15
EC135T1 82+60
CH-47F D-605
AH-64E Q-39
CH-53G 84+14, 84+33, 84+37
A400M 54+05
Tornado 44+69 (special scheme)
H145M 77+01
NH90-TTH 79+05, 79+10, 79+30, 78+31, 78+38
There was also a French Tigre, but despite being able to walk all around and underneath it, I couldn’t see any sort of serial number anywhere. (Edit this was 2032 - thanks Kurnass)
Flying Display
This started with some fly-bys from EF2000T 30+20 from Laage which then landed and was towed into the static area. Then:
EC135T1 82+63
NH90-TTH 79+44
Tiger UHT 74+64
A400M 54+42
And proceedings concluded with a sort of assault demonstration a la Yeovilton which involved 74+64 again and:
NH90-TTH 78+25, 79+34, 79+35, 79+41
CH-53G 84+79
Peering through the windows of the hangar near the bus stops, I was able to identify two more NH90s, 78+04 and 79+17 and there were at least three others which I was told were 78+05, 78+12 and 78+24 although I wasn’t able to confirm these myself.
Mounted on a pole on the corner was Tiger 74+03.
The event was very well organised and great for families and kids. It proved very popular, helped no doubt by the lovely weather. I left at about 12.30 but there were still long queues of people waiting to get in.

Your 78+03 was 78+05. Which is WFU.
The French Tigre was 2032, which is a written off airframe.

On 2032, the guy looking after it told me it had a heavy landing in Afghanistan hence its now a GI frame.

We arrived at 12:30 having driven down from Hamburg - the afternoon A400M was 54+22 and P-3 60+03 displayed
The above Hangars by the bus stop in the afternoon had a piece of paper in the window which repeated or 'confirms' the five NH-90 serials in the left partition of the hangar ( hangar 8?)
Request - the right hand side of the partition also contained two NH-90 - scramble has a very detailed report for Fassberg but I can't work out if these two NH-90 are 78+19 and 78+34 mentioned for Halle 9
In other words were the hangars by the bus stop Halle 8 and Halle 9 ?
Thanks
( We missed Halle 10 which according to scramble contained 78+23 and 78+33 grrrrr )
I made 8/15 NH-90 that I have serials for so well pleased.

Re: Fassberg Tag der Bundeswehr 8th June 2024
No. Hangar 8 was the one behind the busstop, and had 5 NH90’s (as mentioned), and one NH90 training rig in the back.
4 NH90 nose towards the doors, one (78+05) and the training rig against the wall in the back of the hangar.
Hangar 9 was a separate hangar, of which the windows were covered. Through some cracks and gaps some NH90’s could partially be seen.

Re: Fassberg Tag der Bundeswehr 8th June 2024
Thanks
We looked in hangar 8 but to the right an adjoining Hangar under the same roof but separated by a wall contained a couple of NH-90
Was hangar 9 joined to hangar 8 also behind the bus stop or was hangar 9 separate and somewhere completely different?
In other words I suppose I am asking where was hangar 9 ?
Thanks

Re: Fassberg Tag der Bundeswehr 8th June 2024
It’s quite simple Mike. Hangars 8, 9/9a and 10 are all separate buildings forming three sides of a box at the end of the ramp. Hangar 8 was behind the bus departure points; hangars 9/9a run at right angles to this behind the entrance security checks (as stated, the hangars with the covered windows); hangar 10 then runs at a further right angle, so being opposite hangar 8 albeit with the ramp between them. Outside hangar 10 was the junior go-kart track and a display of fuel bowsers. For completeness, hangar 7 was beyond hangar 8, with The Tiger pole mounted outside. HTH.

Finally got it , sorry about that. We did look in hangar 8 where the list was posted but not hangar 9 ( i was hoping hangar 9 was an extension of hangar 8 as there appeared to be more than the 5 NH-90 that were listed on the window?)
As we were parking up in the park and ride at around midday two H-135 flew over - according to scramble they were D-HABT and D-HABU
Edit : according to Ronny above the hangar behind the bus stops with the list of five real NH-90 was hangar 10

Re: Fassberg Tag der Bundeswehr 8th June 2024
There really were only 5 NH90’s in that hangar 8. Plus one rig behind camouflage netting. Nothing more, nothing less.

Got it - thanks - we saw 15/18 possible NH-90
Moving on to the ILA log now

Re: Fassberg Tag der Bundeswehr 8th June 2024
I dissagree. Hangar 8 contained 7 NH90's. In the left (main) part were 6 NH90's. 4 nose towards the doors and 2 in the back facing west. Those 2 were 78+05 (no serial worn, wfu, and used as a training rig nowadays) as well as MTR+1B (bare metal, behind some netting). In the right part another NH90 fuselage could be found facing west, which is also a training rig with serial MTR+02. These three could not be read by us, but were provided by local mechanics.
Re: Fassberg Tag der Bundeswehr 8th June 2024
Well, in my humble opinion training rigs are not NH90’s. NH90’s can fly (unless wfu), where as training rigs are just that. A rig, resembling a helicopter.
So, 5 NH-90 (of which 78+05 wfu), and two training rigs.

Re: Fassberg Tag der Bundeswehr 8th June 2024
Don't get me wrong, I can fully understand you and it's up to anyone how they deal with this! But from a distance and through some mirroring windows one cannot easily identify a real one from a rig. Hence my remark and additional mentioning of positions.
Also good to add, those rigs are the real deal. The frames come from the NHI/Airbus helicopters assembly line minus hydraulics/avionics/some specific hardware components, pending the use of the rig. This was cheaper than creating a rig from scratch as well as cheaper then buying the whole thing and canabalizing it.
