Pete,
Another option would be to visit the two aviation museums in the city. Both inexpensive * and worth doing, particularly if you like MiGs.
* inexpensive but they still like to charge you extra for using a camera!

Entrance is normally straight off the main road by the old terminal building.

No permits required inside, but in the past they have done spotters passes which get you away from the scrum of the fence line and offer cool drinks and shade (which are a godsend!)

I might be going again this year, so will try and find out what the spotters email is for this year.

Meet up for a few drinks
As it is the Airport south of Bucharest,Anyone want to share the cost of a taxi
If you have a Hire Car,I will of course "chip in"

Pete,
Did the show in 2017. Going back this year - STD-OTP-STD Thurs/Fri & staying at the Phoenicia Grand 15mins walk from the gate. Buses are good and taxis are reasonably priced, but airport cabbies will try and rip you off...
Take plenty of water - you are standing on concrete all day.

The Airport you are refering too is the main airport.
The show is at Baneasa,South of Bucharest
As the Phoenica Grand is a sponsor of the Event
I have sent them a Email asking about any Shuttle Bus service and any VIP Passes
you might want to send them a Email

Pete

Greetings from the OTP departure lounge. Baneasa is NORTH of the town, 1/2 way to OTP. When you get to OTP splash out 20 LEI/RON (the same) for a 3 day bus ticket. The 100 express stops quite close to Baneasa on its way to/from town, and various 44* local buses also serve Baneasa.
As for the museums; the military museum is fascinating for students of military history. For readers of this page get the 85 (trolley) bus and look across from the road, because the Aviaton section is closed. You can see the MiG15 & SA330 & the IAR93 through the windows. Top Commie gens might recognise a spindly too inside.
The Aviation Museum is closed for renovations, for at least the next three years. There is a Marriott next door and views of the field would probably be excellent from a high floor, but for us mere mortals, shooting over the fence from the North side will give the best view, with a few more visible through foliage on the south side. On the plus side it appears most/all of the a/c previously "inside" are now "outside". Questions?
BTW if any of our Romanian viewers are watching, there were 6 C-27s outside earlier, 2701,2,3,4, 6 & a.n.other....which one might be on overhaul/away?

Hi DW01,
I can't claim to be Romanian, but can suggest a study of records provided by Radarbox might give a clue as to your missing Spartan.
2705 routed west on 20th via Napoli to Beja. It flew locals out of Beja 23 and 24th ( doing low-level flights over the parachuting training field at Tancos). Last record was for the afternoon of 24th in that area. No recent records for 2707.
Regards, Freeman

Are the RCAF Hornets coming to that exercise? Or just deployed to Mihail Kogalniceanu? Two years ago they were also deployed to MK, and visited BIAS.

Jordy

Many thanks for the input
These days the info/rumour "buzzing" around the Internet can be misleading.

Still shaping up to be a good and different style of show
