Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Looking at a possible day trip to Paris for the flypast. Where have people watched form in the past?

Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Les Invalides was a good spot, but this year the flypast is supposed to be over Vincennes due to the Olympics. I'd only be guessing but there is a clear area to the south of the area which looks like a showground of some sorts?

Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Belgian F-16s and Indian Rafales participated in the 2023 flypast so I would think unlikely for 2024. Actual make of the full parade , including the flypast, are normally made public around mid June by the military governor of Paris’s office if my memory serves me correctly. According to reports on Scramble last week, with links to articles in Parisian newspapers, the parade route has been changed again to take place on the Avenue Foch which runs from Porte Dauphine to the Arc de Triomphe. No ideas as yet for a good viewing/photographic position.
Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Yeah looks like the website I was reading had a mixture of this year and last year flypast.
Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
I’ve been looking into it also. I visit Paris every year for Quattorze Julliet, and unfortunately this year will be totally different.
The locations I have in mind are the park near Chateau the Bagatelle, or the bridge across the Seine just north of that.
Free line of sight, and not too far away.
But it all depends on security measures, and if that area isn’t closed off for whatever reason.
A few weeks before the event the participants and security measures will be published, only then we can make a decision on where to stand, I think.

Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Early days but I was thinking of heading to the Longchamp race course area which should be just south of the flight path and reasonable unobstructed views based on photos although I haven't been there before.
You probably will see the Flypast from the traditional spot in Invalides but it could be distant and not possible to read anything off

If you’re on the south side, I think you look into the sunlight? Which might make reading a lot more difficult.
In recent years I always stood on a bridge in Nanterre, facing south, sun in the back. That location is not okay for this year, but I think it’s best to watch from the north

Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Surely facing south you are looking into the sun… Invalides is on the south side of the Seine and you look north to see the flypast.
Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Yeah, we’re much more to the west of Paris where we watch the flypast, coming from north west to south east. In the morning the sun is still okay

Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
The practice a short while ago had the RAF typhoon coming in over Gard du Nord and heading SW down Avenue Foch
I reckon you have to be south of parc Bagatelle mentioned above - perhaps at the western end of Alle de Longchamps
(Unfortunately for me I can't make it this year as my dear old mum is having a party on 14/7 - yes same day as the Euros final ! plus I need to save some cash for later this year)

The French Air Force has posted the current flypast participants and formation on X today:

Hope this helps, sorry if this is common knowledge!

Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
If I have understood the program correctly it seems the army choppers are first followed by the Airforce and Navy aeroplanes
Normally it's the other way around

My French is pretty much non-existent, but the link above states:-
10:32: Parade of helicopters and light aircraft.
11:17: Parade of planes.
From experience, these often run behind schedule!

Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
I'm in Normandy now and saw a Rafale low level over Omaha beach, heading east earlier today.
I obviously missed the practise but does anyone know if the fast jets will recover to Evreux on Sunday, or return to their home bases after the fly-past?
Many thanks in advance, for any gen.
Regards,
Paul

Evreux is not used for fighters this year.

Re: Bastille Day Flypast 2024
Thanks, Kurnass - guess I'll just enjoy Normandy, the local beer and food - we must bear these hardships, eh
Cheers,
Paul
