I wasn't there, but saw footage via the Forum of the sadly now extinct An-224 at Fairford a few years ago- also reminds me of a visit to Bentwaters when I was changing lenses; a WR F-4 spooled up before 'taxiing into position' and blew one of my lenses off a tree-stump.

How on Earth is this someone being a jobsworth? Having worked at RAF Lossiemouth for 14 yrs, I’ve seen first hand the dangers of standing/parking in the under/over shoot areas. If people can’t figure it out for themselves and need to be told then they aren’t very bright.

Went to St Maarten. Ridiculous people there. Eventually a lady was killed when blown into the concrete central reservation. People with sand in their eyes, stones peppering their faces, let alone standing in the undershoot, which was really scary. Only did it once, that was enough!! Occasionally people have to reminded to look after their own safety!!.

The areas in question are painted red/white for a reason. Anybody who stands there needs their head testing - stupid thing to do.

The article was written for military personnel.
Thunder acknowledged that his colleagues were aware of the hazards, as are most airfield regulars. There are signs posted for visitors who can read and recognise the dangers.
Jobsworth is the author of the piece.
Preaching to the converted. An unnecessary article is what I was claiming it to be.

A jobsworth is a person who uses the authority of their job in a deliberately uncooperative way, or who seemingly delights in acting in an obstructive or unhelpful manner. It characterises one who upholds petty rules even at the expense of effectiveness or efficiency.

The article you linked to is in relation to a post made on Waddingtons X account and is clearly aimed at those that are outwith the perimeter fence, certainly not for military personnel. Still can’t see how the author of the Forces.net article is anything resembling a “jobsworth”, and is he really preaching or just reporting the facts to a wider audience?

I think Coningsby's problem is partially due to the proximity of the road at the 07 end. People step back in to the road without checking for traffic, and you are pretty close to the departing/over shooting aircraft.

Waddington's issue has been around for a while - RJ flights using the under run (Zulu) have often had delayed departures due to folks standing at the red and whites, and the Red Arrows have been using Zulu a fair bit recently. No idea why people want to stand behind a departing aircraft if any sort!

One day a couple of weeks back an RJ blew a fence panel in to the road on the A15 as well. New signs have been put up, and there are more patrols now.

They've stopped people standing in-between the (road) lights on some occasions, although that could be linked to parking in the layby rather than the wave.

If certainly feels like this is a hot topic at both bases lately.

There may be another reason for this timely reminder. First of all, people, over time, forget about the huge energy a modern jet engine produces. Were someone to be injured, and no warning given, MoD o gents might be liable to civil prosecution and damages. If people persist in ignoring the warnings, the areas might be closed off (not sure how) on Health and Safety grounds, and we all loose out. Just for once, read the notices and do as they ask.

In these days of blame & claim, I think the notices could also be interpreted as a legal disclaimer on the on the MOD's part, in the unpalatable event of anyone being injured (or worse).

Exactly Vulture01, a minority may just be the cause for all to lose out. Any injuries incurred might just be the excuse from the 'officialdom' (LCC or Police) to severely curtail viewing !
