Makes you wonder why they make the split line on the canopy,
no need for it really.guess the new kits do not have this problem.?

actually a lot of the new kits do! the harrier spezdaz did had, the f-16 tamiya has, i understand its to do with a problem moulding a double curve? i may be wrong
Re: Seam removing from canopies
Not a problem molding a curve, for many many years most cavities are spark eroded, so no problem
makeing the canopy in the fixed half of the tool should be no problem,
I used to work for Hella Lighting makeing pretty much all the front car headlight lens
as you can see from the modern shapes and curves, all done with no split line. meaning moulded in the fixed half cavity.the moving being just the core.
All cars lens today are made from Ploycarbonate, and then sprayed with an anti chip laquer.
Just seems a shame for modellers to have to do this on the canopy when it could be a non issue.

Re: Seam removing from canopies
This problem has existed for at least three decades - I have a 1:32 Tamiya F-14A which I bought in 1981 for the then massive price of £29.95 - pretty much the most expensive aircraft kit at the time - it had this problem, as have many of the larger modern jet kits since.
Re: Seam removing from canopies
not sure where i heard that, either way thanks to micro mesh an easy fix
Re: Seam removing from canopies
Intresting subject and one i would complain to the model makers over
Must be a cost issue, thou i cannot see why.

Re: Seam removing from canopies
Hello all,
Hope you dont mind me adding to this as i took the plunge a while ago with a Hasegawa F-14A canopy. I took a small Snap On half round file and then some Micromesh(bought on Ebay) to get from this...

....to this.

A wee bit more had it like a new pin but that was before i found out about klear dipping!
Arabest,
Geoff.
