I have been planning a trip to California/Arizona for the new year. Now that there are no bus tours of Monthan can anyone advise whether it is possible to see the Jayhawks Lears & Gulfstreams and if so where from.

Best done from above I would suggest.

Download an inventory, and work out which areas contain the frames you are after. Then look at the area maps like this one https://www.flickr.com/photos/62861611@N08/52015870406. In general stuff which is in areas next to Escalante, Kolb and Irvington road are visible, particularly bigger stuff. You won't get much out of areas 1,2,7,8,11,12,15,16,18,22,24,26,27,28 unless it's C-5, KC-10, or C-135 sort of size.

Last time I was there (2 years ago) the C-21's and C-20's were in area 20. You could read most of them from the corner of Irvington and Kolb. There weren't any T-1's in store then though, so dunno how easy they will be to get.

C-20 (x4) are in area 20, (x1) in Display Row

Hi Alan

I was there 10 days ago and an overflight is a must to see 99% of aircraft. I walked the fence on South Kolb road both sides. When you reach the overpasses on the road you have to go under the overpass to continue walking the fence. You can easily read off all Gulfstreams and C-21’s in Area 20 and the majority of the T-1’s in Area 22 but you can see all of them easily. I also read off 3 on the various arrivals sections easily as well.

Yeah, my overflight was 8 am Saturday morning, it crossed over the active side and done 5/6 circuits above South Kolb road and kept to perimeter of base. He then exited towards Pima museum with great views of Arrival ramp/hangars/ wash rack etc. Well worth the money paid

Also worth checking out Boneyard Safari, not an AMARG tour but a private scrapyard, had multiple Hercules and C27, a 737, tweets been scrapped, a P3 and C47s in March this year
