So what was Happening at Nellis AFB

Post by Boxhill Bob » Fri Nov 03, 2023 4:09 pm

Ok I saw a list on Scramble saying the were alot of visiting aircraft from Alaska Hawaii and Ausralia in Nellis AFB but on checking they seem to be only flying night mission first week and thought they may fly during the day on the secound week if they stayed as there was no info on how long the exercise would last and did not even know what it was call and.... As it was in Las Vegas I would gamble and go and see what i could shootI arrived at Nellis 30th I made for the Quarry the road up to the viewing point is open again from North Hollywood Blvd the wind was favouring the Cheyenne end of the runways It got to 12 noon and no movement from the exercise aircraft just based flying and C-17s and C-130 in and out so went down to Cheyenne and was surprise to find the bums had moved back in mass and lots of spurious character were walking about with dumps cars and van a people living out of old RV as I seem to be the only photographer and not a spotter anywehere to be seen i limited my time there...... Anyway on with what I shot over the two days

Wow, some serious hardware there, thanks for sharing :thumb:
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Thanks for sharing these, extremely helpful as I've been trying to track down the serials of those visiting jets for a good few weeks now!

Quality numbers

I could have done with seeing those AK - so much easier than going to Alaska!

I really must pay more attention to scramble as overseas coverage on FC is unfortunately quite sparse to put it mildly.

You can get a jet blue flight there from Gatwick for £683 departing this Tuesday returning Saturday - so tempting

But it is a big gamble as they have been there since 20/10 according to scramble so this is the end of the 2nd week

Edit : Looking at the coronets section it looks like the AK went back north on Friday

Suspect this may have been a Black Flag, the US and RAAF did one last year.

The AK F-35s returned to Eielson AFB as CUBE 11-16 and CUBE 21-26, November 2nd.
The HH F-22s returned to Honolulu as DIRCA 81-86, November 1st.

Personally I think the TX F-16's were actually here for a Green Flag that was been hosted at the same time. Although the might end up staying here ofcourse.

Regards.

Nice set and always good to see some interesting ground shots (even with the heat haze)!

Very nice set like the TX F-16 86-0219 used to be 527th AS at RAF Bentwaters
