September 30th, 1973. Luxeuil

Post by Keflavik69 » Sat Sep 30, 2023 5:37 am

Today 50 years ago I attended the open door day at the French Air Force base of Luxeuil-Saint Sauveur. Home of the 4th Escadre with Mirage 3E's it presented itself as a standard French open day. Unfortunately I didn't manage to photograph the mass-flight for a reason I cannot remember.

Thanks Arnold, another great selection you've provided for our enjoyment. Good to see some bare-metal Mirages, also an F-100 not decaying in a British museum. I would say that we're all grateful to you for taking the time to put these up.

Impressive set as always Arnold particularly the B+W of the Mirage III with the steps. My but that Breguet's a weird looking machine. Typical French design. A sort of flying 2CV!

Thank goodness these are real Mirages and not the sort you get in the desert or on a hot day! Fantastic set of old machines designed to set the pulses of us oldies racing. Many thanks for the great memories of "when I were a lad"!

Wow, absolutely superb stuff - oh to have seen a live Br941! Shiny and fresh out of the box Jag too, very early machine.
