"Maple 31" RAF 5 SQN Tornado F3

Post by jonf45 » Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:39 pm

Hi,

just completed this Revell 1:48 Tornado F3. Finished as ZE760/CF of No.5 Squadron, RAF Coningsby, circa 1988. Airbrushed with Mr Color Acrylic paints, weathered with Ammo Mig washes. Pitot Tube is from Master, and the sqn decals were from Xtradecals.

I discovered this is a notoriously bad kit while doing some research, and unfortunately i see why!! The fit in places is appalling, certain parts are physically in the wrong place and the instructions range from bizarre to outright lies

I've ordered some engine covers as the intakes are not a pretty sight!!

Ill openly admit there were the usual 3 or 4 mistakes by me and i still cant get the cockpit to sit flush, but in the end im just grateful to have it finished!!

The F3 was generally not really this grubby, but i remember seeing this jet at CBY years ago, and we had to wait for it to turn so we could get the reg as the port side was so weathered that we could not read it off, hence the extra weathering on that side of the tail

Hi Jon :P

The kit might be a disaster, but your build is anything but

Top work there: you should be well proud of the result :thumb:

Great model of a plane that we were so used to around here with 43 and 111.
Live the weathering on the tail
