And here

https://www.suffolknews.co.uk/bury-st-e ... d-9326479/

The RAF has stated it will be using Honington airfield for a major exercise, with increased flight activity likely in the surrounding area.

The exercise takes place between August 26 and September 15, with activity expected to pick up between 4pm and 2am each day.

A range of aircraft, including Chinook helicopters, are expected to take part.

Looking forward to a bit of Honington activity even if it is into the night! Wonder what the "range" of other aircraft will be; jets?

I do recall a few years ago F15's did some night flying around Honington. Could see the red lights flashing away in the dark!! A400 is also mentioned in the BBC article.

Unfortunately doesn’t seem like there’s much room for any photographers/spotters. Anyone familiar with the area or?

Can park on Green Lane, leading to the main gate, and look across before you are past ATC, or for the other end park on Thetford Road and walk along the edge of the field as we did for the French in 90's.

As this exercise starts over the Bank Holiday weekend I was wondering whether it could be primarily for Reservists, but then I noticed that it continues for three weeks! So perhaps Reservists to start with then Regulars after that. Looking forward to it whatever.

Fairly sure this is Exercise Chameleon, normally based @ Leeming and Leuchars, a 3 week exercise that usually starts on the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Chinooks, Apaches, Shadow R1s, A400M, C-17 and of course, the now retired C-130 to name but a few.

CV-22B Ospreys from Mildenhall also took part on some occasions.

It's a Special Forces Exercise, lot's of night flying!

2 x C-17s working the circuit right now. Looks like they're coming down to around 100 feet then overshooting.

This was from ADS-B last night taken from the East anglia section:
Blackcat 820 ZZ175 low pass over Honington now circling and lining up for a second approach. In the descent now at 500 feet.Low pass and now climbing out
Blackcat 811 ZZ178 now descending towards Honington while ZZ175 circles for another approach. ZZ178 went down to 50 feet according to ADS-B now climbing out.
Circuits by both aircraft continuing
