KC-707 Re'em arrives Mildenhall at sunset

A rumour about the Israeli KC-707 arriving at 2030L was circulating in John's Field during the morning, but as the storm clouds gathered and it started to rain in the early evening - hope was fading... I held on to a vision of the aircraft arriving with the sun peeking through a thin band of clear sky under the cloud as it set.

And so it turned out. I fought through the undergrowth and made my way to The Mound at the 28 end (when did all those trees grow so big!) and took this photo (1/800s, F2.8, ISO4000) just as the sun was sitting on the horizon; you can see it shining on the flaps underneath the aircraft.

It was not a bad way to end my special "50th Anniversary" visit to Mildenhall

As for the mound, it's fabulous for wildlife, but getting little too wild for aviation photography!
