Wattisham 08/08/2023

13:15 around the back by crash gate 5 (crowthorpe road) - 400m walk along the fence past the second phantom shelter you can see

(ZJ177) cab remains but identifiable as an Apache
(?????) Lynx - weirdly the port and starboard sides are two different tones of grey as if they are from different helicopters!

Just found out ZM700 is outside so off around the memorial side.

Rats ! The one I thought would be ZM700 is ZM709 to my eye along with ZM714 plus one more

ZM709 is crewed up so hopefully it will fly soon?

Also apologies to the two spotters I bumped into, I hadn't noticed two AH-64E further to the right

The left hand one of the above pair is clearly ZM700. Pot!

Unfortunately AAC 776 took off and went the wrong way for me - looks to be heading down to Wallop

So is ZG920 a 'cut-and-shut', which with the red beading along the length makes it appear that it could be?

It does look weird - maybe one side has become bleached unless it was an optical illusion

It doesn't seem that long ago when I went to a Wattisham open day and logged quite a few AH9 and now they are gone

I didn't see or still need ZG884 ZG914 ZG921 so I am definitely going to the Army museum for ZG921 on my next trip to the smoke

It has been at Porton Down for some sort of trials. Maybe the different colours were applied there to aid the trials?

ZG914 was preserved at Wainfleet at a holiday park unless has been moved on.

Stayed at Wainfleet a few years ago during the "Beast from the East" hitting us - it was very windy, strangely.
Friends that were staying in the actual control tower had issues with the plumbing (little or no water when you turned on the taps/shower at times). I was in one of the "houses" and had no issues.

Lynx wasn't there yet when I stayed there so not sure. If I remember rightly there is a quite high fence around the site so possibly not.

Apologies for the rather self indulgent bump

ZG914 noted today as advertised above - just go to the Wainfleet control tower as shown on Google maps.
