What a brilliant set from what was then my 'local'. I've never seen the static park to devoid of people - you must have got there very early!?

I can still recall the astonishment felt when walking back to the car at the end of the afternoon and seeing the Sandringham on approach.

The best thing about the St Mawgan Air Days of the 70s onwards was the move from the traditional 'Battle of Britain' mid-September Saturday to a Wednesday in August, enabling a lot more RAF and European visitors to take part, such as the French KC-135.

Yes remember those days with fond memories, what a different selection of aircraft.

Excellent shots from my local airbase. The place was a lot quieter once the Canberras moved out.

Thanks for sharing these with us, some absolute gems amongst them and hard to pick a favourite. I attended the shows in 1991 and 1992, travelling down on the overnight train from London, the first show in particular stood out because of some of the rarely seen types that turned up. Once again, if only I had a time machine.

Great set. If I had a time machine older St Mawgan shows would always be on the revisit list.

Great photos of what was always a good show - my first St Mawgan show was 1978. Lots of happy memories in your set, especially the Dutch and German 104s and the Dutch Neptune, but my favourite has to be the silver 11sqn Lightning. Thanks for posting these.

What a fantastic post, another vote for the silver Lightning, but love that low level Herc - superb.

What a great post and memory jerker.
The great and good old days, gone but not forgotten especially when skilled photographers reignite the memories.
Unfortunately I missed this excellent looking show as the Army had me elsewhere :(
Thanks for sharing your superb pics
Best regards, Terry

Fantastic post and superb quality photos, thanks for posting.
I was there during a holiday with pals post-graduating and, as well as a few beers, remember being gobsmacked when the Sandringham sailed serenely by!!

Stunning set, Michael :Wow:

I can remember camping up on Quintrell Downs and seeing a show from afar, purely by accident

That 3-ship pic of TT18’s is right up there

Frightning is wonderful too ;)

Thanks for posting :thumb:
