Madrid Dias de Hispanidad 12th of October

The defilé was preceded by a flyover from the Patrulla Aguila, and a C212 dropped two paras, one with a huge Spanish flag.

OK that's an impressive list. Assume this is Spain's National day celebrations, is the flypast always this big or was this year a special occasion ?

It’s an annual event. Can’t tell if it’s much bigger than normal. I’ve seen reports of of over 50 aircraft in the past, but also of only Patrulla Aguila participating.

For us it was a gamble, didn’t know what to expect until the rehearsals started last week. But it paid off.

Edit: I’ve just checked some previous years. It seems to be a bigger parade in recent years
2015 53 planes, 2016 52, 2017 78, 2018 75, 2019 76 planes participated.

The defile is being held at the P.o de la Castellana, from south to north.
Patrulla Aguila first flies perpendicular to this road from west to east, over Stadium Bernabeu.
After that they will close the parade, by following the same route as the other participants. So they don’t ruin the defilé with their smoke as sometimes happens over Paris.

(All of the above happened this way in 2022, as it was my first Spanish defile, I assume this is the normal procedure, but no guarantee)

Hispanic Day - National Holiday - October 12

Hispanic Heritage Day or National Holiday of Spain is October 12 in Madrid .

The national holiday of October 12 was approved by the Spanish Government on the occasion of the IV centenary of the discovery of America in 1892.

In the past some good views were had from Torrejón as all the jets departed for the flypast, lots of people there so no issues with viewing or photography, and for the numbers people more jets than in the flypast as the spares were there to. Similar the night before for the helicopters which were at at Cuatro Vientos. Not sure if it is still the same.
