Root ramps to his 59 test half century
Re: The Ashes 2023
Weather for the next three days could be an issue. Forecast seem to be getting worse with each update. Saturday still looking like there will be no play all day
Root just got to 50, 256 for 2

Need to get a good total, declare then rip through them somehow before Saturday
Crawley 152 off 152, cracking innings, had some luck but well played that man.

It was great being sat in there yesterday. Even though 5 rows from the back the view is unobstructed and the atmosphere was bouncing despite it being the first day.Gary wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 3:59 pmRace on to see who get to the next century first Crawley 174 or Root 65

Re: The Ashes 2023
Excellent day for England - had some family around but the radio has been on all day in the background
He won't but I wonder if Stokes is pondering a snap declaration overnight or very early tomorrow to a) catch the Aussie openers unprepared b) set about trying to bowl Australia out and then chase the win.
It doesn't matter how many we score in our first innings as we need to take 10 Australia wickets so why not maximise the time to bowl Australia out and give England a shot at the target to keep the Ashes alive?

Re: The Ashes 2023
The best option, bearing in mind the projected weather, is for ENG to bat on and gain as quickly as possible a substantial lead.
Then trust they can bowl out AUS and not need to bat again.
