Kings birthday flypast / practice

Post by Chaos » Sat May 20, 2023 6:15 pm

Does anyone have any info on when or even if there will be a practice for this like there has been before for the Queen.
Or perhaps would they consider the coronation one they did as the practice as it was not long ago.

Is there going to be an 'official birthday' for His Majesty in June? I thought, perhaps wrongly, that this was instigated by Her late Majesty, to provide a Royal event in summer.
Does anyone know for certain if there is such an event planned for this year?

Perhaps some of the planned elements of the Coronation flypast will be re-run for the Trooping the Colour flypast

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the King will be celebrating an official birthday this June, just like the Queen did throughout her 70 year reign. The Palace announced that the King would be celebrating his first official birthday on Saturday 17 June 2023 through the traditional Trooping of the Colour celebrations.

The official birthday was actually instigated by a monarch before the Queen. My understanding of It was because their actual birthday was always raining so it was decided to have it celebrated in June instead and the Queen carried on the tradition. And the king is carrying it on the same.
I know there will be a flypast for it but my question was if they will still practice it seeing as they have only just practiced simular for the coronation

An SI has been published for the flypast itself but not for a rehearsal so I'm going to say probably not.

Interesting that no NOTAMs have been issued for the flypast or practice so far.

As they did a rehearsal for the Coronation probably do not need a rehearsal plus there will be alot less aircraft.

Believe the King has personally requested the original Flypast plan for the coronation to be repeated for trooping the colour. No practice needed, but would think the Typhoon formation might have a practice?

Only difference is rather than Griffin combine (A400 + 2 Hercs) will now be three Hercs.

Hi,my view is the signs to watch out for if Coningsby a 20 plus launch .If the Texans arrive at Cranwell the previous Friday and if all else fails The RAF twitter page shows a simulation of the flypast which they have for the 100 and coronation which starts between 8am and 9am on the day.As for the routing it would difficult to change without a practice and they always fly straight up the mall it give the Royal family the best possible view

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Was hoping to catch a view of the practice but it seems like they don't feel the need. I am not surprised the King has requested it after all the work that went into it and it was cancelled at the last min.

I'm considering a trip to London to see this with my sprog, as it's a pretty unique opportunity. Does anyone have any concrete info that it will be on the scale of the Coronation Flypast? British Gliding Association is currently my primary source. Also any recommendations for spots to get a good view (excepting the Balcony at Buckingham Palace). IIRC someone mentioned one of the bridges as a good spot in the run up to the coronation?

I use the pedestrian (wobbly) bridge for every fly past. You get good side on views and can include St Pauls if you wish.
