Departure day

Post by smudger » Thu May 25, 2023 11:18 am

With all tickets sold out for the Monday, does anyone know if they’ll be having a pay at the gate system in place? I know they normally have done in past years.

Cheers Sam

Yes but you'll need to be there early (or a Friat Pass gets you arrivals departures etc)

You can sign up to the waiting list for Monday tickets. I received an email from RIAT today offering me tickets.

I am on the wait list too, but if worst comes to worst, how early are we talking to show up on the day?

Are there any unofficial spots open for departures?

Thanks all.

I remember last year asking one of the staff if they'd sold out of tickets after the gates had been open a few hours and they said they hadn't. This was up at West which is typically quieter and has a ticket stash separate to the one at east (I think - not 100% on that).

I was in the queue at 6am that morning but bumped into someone with a spare ticket anyway, I'd reccomend being there at that time or before if you have no ticket, but I got the impression that they had enough tickets held on the gate, at least for last year.

The ticketing system is electronic, and all P & V tickets are valid at either end.(You can swap ends as often as you like, during the day.) I can't see how a 'stash' of tickets at one end only could possibly work....

Perhaps I have that wrong then, apologies. Maybe that used to be the case and has since changed?

You give them the £££, they give you a hand stamp.

Just curious as to what happens if you queue up with out tickets and they sell out all tickets for those who couldn't get tickets on line. Would to be able to stay in the car park and get photos from there?

I find it hard to believe they have ever “run out” of p&v tickets. I always buy on the day and have never had a problem.

Yes me & the ex missus turned up once just after 12pm as we were holidaying in the area and there were still tickets left at full price . Had missed most of departures so we left 😅

As a backup plan, if i cant get tickets, wheres the next best place to be for the Deps, do they still have the Welford Road closed for pedestrians on the monday like they do during the weekend?

I don't think you would be turned away if you parked on the tarmac at the West End (09 end) if they are airborne that way. I have seen people sit there over the years to do that, and I am sure someone else on the main RIAT thread mentioned it - don't hold me to it though :D
