F111 & F15 changeover at Lakenheath
I think old age is creeping in and the memory is not what it was !!
Can anyone advise if all the F111 left Lakenheath before the F15 arrived. Were there any mixed flying like we have today with F15 & F35 ?

Hi,
F15e's were on base before the F111s left. I think there was a mixed demonstration at Mildenhall Air Fete in 1992 of F111Fs and F15e.

All the F-15C had left Lakenheath before the first F-35A arrived. Whats there now are F-15E with no plans for them to leave.

Definatly a flypast at Mildenhall 92 with both types. Vaguely recall them doing a joint flypast at another show, but can't be sure of where.

From what I can recall, (excluding the UH's) there were no LN F-111F's at the Excalibur Meet in 93, they had all gone back by then.
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.
Re: F111 & F15 changeover at Lakenheath
The last F-111F left Lakenheath on 18th December 1992.

The F15Cs left in April 2022 and the 1st F35s arrived in December 2021 so there was a cross overNorvilleRogers wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 12:03 pmAll the F-15C had left Lakenheath before the first F-35A arrived. Whats there now are F-15E with no plans for them to leave.

Re: F111 & F15 changeover at Lakenheath
There was a fair bit of joint training sorties, particularly with 492FS as they transitioned from F-111F to F-15E. I can recall quite a few low level pull ups on the scanner where they called 1xF15E and 2x F-111F, and still have the logs somewhere...

Ah that takes me back. One of my first visits when F15S and F111s ruled the base & the spotters car park was pretty quiet

I do miss the F-111's. Still, the F-15s have provided much entertainment over the years.

Ah, the good old days.
Can't help with the above discussion but remember potting double digit West Coast Starlifters at the Heath, probably just a few days before the first Swingers arrived!

Even the afterburners were brighter back then
