Mudry CAP 10 seems to have been removed from the website. This is how the show looks with 7 weeks to go.
Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
with massive respect to everyone involved, that line-up looks like a free seaside airshow ( with the possible exception of the patrouille suisse). this year was going to be my first ever Cosford airshow ,but I'm beginning to wonder if its worth buying a ticket at this stage.
it may improve but im getting Teesside airshow vibes, lol

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
I get what you are saying. I have seen every display (aside from NH90 and Suisse) in either Newcastle, Portrush or Bray in recent years. I guess the insurance thing is really screwing them. Not their fault. But 2018 was the last Cosford show I thought was worth the money.Discodaz wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 5:23 amwith massive respect to everyone involved, that line-up looks like a free seaside airshow ( with the possible exception of the patrouille suisse). this year was going to be my first ever Cosford airshow ,but I'm beginning to wonder if its worth buying a ticket at this stage.

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
I got shot down for saying it before, but nobody actually explained why it isn't possible. What it stopping F15's and F35's from Lakenheath taking part? They have dozens of jets. Same goes for aircraft from Mildenhall. If the RAF seemingly only want to give minimal aircraft for thier own airshow, why are the USAF not an option?
Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
Because flying military aircraft in front of paying crowds isn't as simple as "hop in the jet and give it a go". The crews have allallocated hours for the month, the airframes too. Crews want time off because they're working all week (that's aircrew, ground crew, ATC, fire, etc. etc. at their home bases!)
If they want to fly in front of a crowd they need to have a validated display, for which the USAF have dedicated teams and nothing more. Any flypasts required HQ authorisation, and a really good reason to be given that authorisation.
They need to have insurance (although for militaries this is usually sorted through their usual insurances that exist) and any other documentation requested by the airshow.
Basically, in short, there's no appetite to perform a flypast at an airshow unless there's good reason to, because they're already so damn busy.

But it's not a problem to open a base and find crew and personnel, to go fly over a memorial stone in the middle of a French field (or a field anywhere in Europe) surrounded by half a dozen 90 year olds.POL wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 12:12 pmBecause flying military aircraft in front of paying crowds isn't as simple as "hop in the jet and give it a go". Hopefully positive news about Sally B
Statement by B-17 Operator Elly Sallingboe
on the Impending FAA B-17 AD
Many of you will have heard the rumours about the impending FAA mandatory Airworthiness Directive (AD) on the wing spar issues on all airworthy B-17s.
While we are aware of the wing spar issues - and concerned that the FAA could issue an Emergency Airworthiness Directive, which would affect us all - we will not speculate but wait until the EAD is issued.
In the meantime, our Chief Engineer, Daryl Taplin, is in contact with the FAA, the CAA, and some US B-17 Operators via the B-17 Co-op.
As I write this, we hope that the 2023 season will go ahead as planned. Sally B will leave the hangar at Duxford by the middle of May for engine ground runs followed by test flying and crew training a few weeks later. Her first display is on the 27 May, followed by our tribute to the many at the American Military Cemetery, Madingley on Memorial Day.
The wing spar and the spar caps have been the subject of earlier AD’s for more than twenty years. Each winter, our engineers complete a comprehensive CAA-approved check with the help of NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) specialist Kearsley Airways. Also, our pilots have flown Sally B very gently, with low G loads for many decades.
We trust that our B-17 is structurally sound and can hopefully fly for many more years.

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
Good news hopefully, Sally B is always a pleasure to watch.
I am somewhat easing up on my criticism of the line-up. Over-all yes it does look good so far, and knowing about the insurence issues makes me see it in a new light and realise just how much hoops need jumped through on what would have been an easier addition pre 2019.
Cosford has had USAF flypasts before, so it would be nice to see even a flypast with the UK based aircraft, especially if some are on exercise in the UK but a weekend flypast of an airshow wouldn't be a priority for USAF.

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2023
Lots of speculation about the F/A-18 Swiss Hornet Solo Display Team possibly attending after cancelling their display date on the 11th of June which was originally pencilled in for Tour de Suisse, Einsiedeln, Switzerland.
While i'm not getting my hopes up, this would be a fantastic and very much welcome addition to the line up.
