Finningley Airshow Book Taster - Arrivals Day '86

Post by F3 » Thu Apr 20, 2023 10:25 am

This book is nearly finished and I would like to thank everyone who responded to my appeals for photos of the early shows (and the one I missed). One indicator of the quality of this show was provided by a film shot on the first arrivals day I attended; in '86. All these arrivals were captured in the space of just two hours, mid afternoon. Some of the aircraft arrived in pairs; Belgian Mirages, Dutch F-5s, USAF F-16s and F-111s and others singly such as the French Mirage F1. Some of them returned the following year, such as the display Lightning and the Tornado F3. These pics did nt make the cut for inclusion in the book but five of the best will be in it. I will be posing a 'heads up' when the book goes on sale.

748 (not Andover) and One-Eleven are both from RAE at Bedford not the ETPS at Boscombe Down.

Apologies. It's a good job I have a 1st class editor on board to ensure there will be no such schoolboy errors in the book!

Yes. It most certainly is. I should have realised from the olive fuel tanks. A Dutch pair (incl a B) came in around the same time. The pic of the A of those will be in the book. I just assumed this was it's buddy. Did nt twig that it was a Viking interloper. Good spot and thanks for the correction.
