RAF Coningsby 17/4/23

Post by LN Strike Eagle » Wed Apr 19, 2023 6:02 pm

Spent a few hours at the fence on Monday afternoon. Have only been once before and that was when the Tornado F3s were still in service about 20 years ago, so I'm not really familiar with the best spots. Camped out at Crash Gate 1 for some taxy shots. Light was just starting to get good when I had to leave, did hang around a bit longer for a flight of four but they all taxiied back to the south side.

There were some heading out with dummy LGBs, but if the shots aren’t good enough I don’t post them.

Point K is my personal favourite but is only decent for aircraft coming out of the south side. I've found CG1 is/was populated by far too many locals for my liking!

Ah that's a shame, those 'dummy LGBs' were real live Paveway IVs.

Ah ok, well I’ll have another look through them later and see if anything makes the grade but being backlit and mostly quite high, I didn’t photograph many departures and I didn’t notice any that returned with them still attached.

@POL: Thanks for the link, should really have consulted that at the time but as it wasn’t a proper spotting trip, I didn’t have any big steps or anything with me anyway.

Brilliant thanks, I don't do Flickr otherwise I would have shown you an image of the PWIV exploding on Garvie Island, hence I knew they were not dummy LGBs.
