The crown (King Edward crown I believe) forms part of the RAF Mildenhall Station crest on the based aircraft fins. I had never really noticed it so I doubt media, MPs or any non-spotter would either.

The 100th ARW are USAFE and not AMC so should be totally unaffected by the directive.Pesmog wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2023 9:30 pmI presume that the aircrafts reg will still appear on ADSB, FR24 etc when its airborne, so all won't be entirely lost. If the 100th ARW were to go the same way, there may be a minor difficulty with HMG as all of their KC135's have the UK Crown on the tail and removing that might lead to awkward questions from MP's media etc.

Have they changed the Queen's Crown yet?

Some of us will remember when they stripped all ID off the P-3s. I had several unidentified airframes at Machrihanish.

I've never understood the whole spotting numbers thing anyway, but you lot could look at it as a new challenge

Me neither, but each to his own. Any hobby is a good thing to have.

I've never understood why people just like to watch aircraft without photographing them or collecting numbers, but as you say, each to their own!
Re: USAF AMC to remove tail numbers.
People [like me] watch aircraft fly to appreciate the skill that goes into getting it into the air, displaying it etc., and then coming down to a safe landing [sadly not always the case!.]
