Jaguar serials

Post by eurach » Sun Mar 19, 2023 10:57 am

I am sorting through old photos of Jaguars , mostly taken at RAF Lossiemouth in 1999/2000/2001. The tail fin codes are visible , but not the serials . The codes are CV , F , LN , R , TAC , TAU , TH , TR , TW , X , and XZ . Does anyone know of a source which links serials with tail fin codes ? Any help would be appreciated.

Most of them look like Tornado codes.

Thanks Mike . You`re right , the TAC , TAU , TH , TR ,and TW codes are definitely Tornados ....... my mistake for looking at the 2nd page of the log rather than the photos themselves.
CV , EN (a two seater ) .F , LN , R , and Z ( a two seater ) are Jaguars . Can anyone help ?

There is no guarantee that the code was worn by the same airframe over that period. Some may have done but unless you have a date for each sighting there is no certainty.

Thanks for your reply Nighthawk . That explains a lot of problems tying these up.

Why not list the actual dates and see if anyone can check?

i`m afraid the years (1999 , 2000 , and 2001 ) are all I have left at this late stage . Looks like this batch will to have remain unknown .

Noted at Lossiemouth on 01/05/99 were Tornado GR1 ZA600/TH & ZD713/TW and Jaguar T2A XX842/X.

Tornado GR1 ZA322/TAC was at the Waddington air show on 26/01/99.

I know it predates your time period but in 1989
XX118 F
XX837 Z
XX720 EN but that had changed to GB by 1995

Obvs there is a very good chance that the tailcodes were swapped, but if you have any other way of typing these up or if it gives you some leads then hopefully it is of use

Thanks for posting those details falcon . For a while , I `ve been trying to tie up old photos and with this sort of information , I`m gradually narrowing the alternatives down.
