There's always going to be Empire Builders in these situations, "them outsiders and us locals". Used to encounter this attitude at Valley in the 90's.

It's not so much the locals at Waddington, it's more the regulars.

here's a thing...I very regularly visit RAF Coningsby...when I visited cobra warrior at waddo last Wednesday (8th), after the morning sortie headed out, I decided to head over to coningsby to get a glimpse of the Saudi typhoons before returning to waddington for the afternoon sortie.

I could not find a single parking spot anywhere round the base as it was so busy.not 1 person had reserved me a spot.

sorry guys I've opened a can of worms here.not intentional.i don't want fall outs.i just feel my point is very valid

this is exactly the sort of thing that puts people off bothering, and thus slowly killing the hobby.

The hobby is very busy these days come the summer when the kids are off a day trip to Coningsby is the norm now. If you dont arrive before eight you could be scuppered. The same with Lakenheath i always park in the car park , so have to be there around 7-7.30 to get parked. it is what it is i blame the internet.

I will add in my tuppence to the discussion, I drove 3 hours to The W.A.V.E on the 14th, I arrived at 6:40am to be told that the car park would not open until 7:30 even though it was occupied. I duly parked on the overspill, it rapidly filled up and still the car park remained "closed".

I am not a local/snob or anything out the ordinary, my only comment would be they opened the car park at 7:30 which caused a stampede out of the overflow, to be greeted by the A15 at its busiest time of the day, way to go on road safety as people came wheel spinning out the overflow, I assume there was some valid reason that it had to open bang on 7:30? I did rock up on the Thursday the week before to be greeted by an open but empty W.A.V.E car park at 7am.

Any Range Rover Evoques in the Wave today,or maybe even Jaguar E-Paces,as the latter would seem to fit the current criterion for SUV entry of being made abroad(Austria)?

Guys on the gate let me in in my range rover only to be to once in that i have to park in the overflow. When i asked why other range rovers were parked up he said he didnt know about them. When i walked past after parking in the overflow they were letting in all sorts of large cars just not range rovers. Apparently this has come from the police but i call BS. there was plenty of spaces today even at half 10 and i noticed that cars that had been parked in the front row and had left had cones in the space to reserve it.

Parking management at the WAVE this year has been a shambles. In all the many years I've been going there, from before it was called the WAVE(eg ACMI exercises), I've had no problems.

Turned up at 8am on Wednesday, had no issues. Just asked whether we had a dog on board? Didn't seem interested in the walrus and okapi in the back at all!

As a definitely irregular visitor to the WAVE I arrived yesterday at 9 to get one of the last 3 spaces. For the next 4 1/2 hours the stewards in the car park were being proactive, constantly checking spaces, opening up more room on the grass and managing the gates. Apart from a couple of cars turned away when the barriers were closed the only vehicle I saw turned away was a transit van. There were certainly some largish cars in the carpark (maybe its the big tow hooks unnecessarily sticking out of the back of Range Rovers they don't like) including a large Tesla parked so close to me I had to se the passenger door to get in. The stewards were helpful and friendly and I reckon were doing a good job.
Slightly amused about the black Kuga with the flashing lights in the windscreen and the Event Vehicle sign in the Smart but they meant I got a a parking space, a good cup of coffee and a clean loo to use.
Thanks to the stewards.

I went yesterday and parked in the overflow first then into the wave when it emptied out a bit. What i will say is, it is probably worth parking in the overflow as getting out after the f16s had landed was terrible. People were not very conscientious and weren't letting people out but forcing their way through (with the exception of the odd one or two decent drivers)
Also, something that concerns me is the amount of litter that people had left at the fence line, empty packaging, cans, bottles etc. As has been said previously, it is getting worse with regards to the amount of new "spotters" taking up the hobby that aren't interested in sticking to the rules and i fear we will only be tolerated for a limited amount of time if people keep on acting how they are. Sign of the times, but people just dont seem to care about anything these days.

Most range rovers like the evoque and the velar like mine dont have tow hooks. The older ones tend to have them but most modern ones dont. I personally think someone has said something along the lines of "dont let large 4x4s in like range rovers" and they have taken that as dont let range rovers in.

When we arrived on Wednesday morning around 09:00 in our Discovery the chap at the entrance initially said we couldn’t come in and said about the overflow then changed his mind and allowed us to park on the grass area which was ideal, I would add it wouldn’t have been a problem if we would have had to move. He did allude to the fact it was due to the height of the vehicle which escaped me unless it was to do with blocking some peoples view.
