Car parking and viewing at Waddington.

Post by Doughnut » Tue Feb 28, 2023 12:55 pm

As has been stated parking restrictions are in place around Waddington. Looks like runway 02 in use tomorrow so what options are there for viewing arrivals tomorrow. Is there any sensible car parking in Harmston village ?

There is some parking on the southern edge of Waddington Village - I also believe (but have not seen myself so can't confirm) that the southern layby on the 'S' bend on tower/white lane is open, so some cars should get in there.

Most of Harmston is sign posted as 'access only' so not sure how'd the local's would feel if a million spotters descended on them haha.

There is also Coleby further to the south which offers great views of landing aircraft on 02 - my A400 shots from yesterday were taken here.

Thanks Reaper. Thought both lay-bys on Tower Lane where closed. Is the AW site compound site there?
Will check out Coleby. Sadly expect the fighters will turn inside that point.

I've parked in Harmston during last years CW with no issues, from memory there was less than a handful of spotters vehicles in the village on the arrivals day.

Neil

Be aware that Station Road, Harmston (from Brant Road up to Harmston village) will be closed from 20th March until end of April, for re-surfacing, which may affect anyone coming in from the A46 direction.

So is one of the laybys still useable on the 1178 bend? Absolute madness to come those off, zero point, just causes more frustration and danger!

the Southern layby is partially open on the s bends of tower lane. there is only one entry/exit available and that's if you come from the a15 end. there is space for a good number of cars.

Just a quick question is there an approximate timescale for the cobra exercise? Trying to book a day off work which maybe not for a week or so?

Should be 6th - 24th March for Cw 23-1. Hopefully they get two in this year!

Arrivals look to be 2/3rd March.

As I can't get up to Waddo over the week, due to work, is the Wave open at the weekend? I know the chances of flying is slim but really want to make the trip up for the Indians

It wasn't open this weekend.

You can park in the overspill though.

I've seen a photo of the people gathered at the fence side this morning - looks like absolute carnage.

Have people been queuing up along the a15 waiting for the car park to open?

The Belgians can be seen from the A607 on the west of the base.
They can be seen better by parking in the layby on tower lane, then walking down to crash gate 5.

The Mirages can be seen from the A15, south of the WAVE.
