Daggers at Davis-Monthan May 8th, 1975

Post by Keflavik69 » Tue Feb 07, 2023 9:40 am

I visited the USA for the first time in 1975. During that trip I visited Davis-Monthan AFB where the PAO surprised me with the question: "which types do you want to see"? As a former Soesterberg spotter the first type that crossed my mind was the Dagger of course. So we went to the storage area loaded with an absolutely insufficient amount of films. On the way out I could only think "I must come back here and then properly prepared". I hope you like my selection of Daggers, one of each Air Guard unit I photographed that day.

Goodness me, Arnold, you have excelled yourself with this post! And a 57FIS aircraft in the mix too. Lovely pictures. Thanks for posting.

Fantastic

Not too much of the dreaded white protective coating in evidence either

This is a superb post, the NASA bird is a bit unusual, this really is an interesting set.

Great post.
For our '74 visit, the 102's were our first stop
After we all tried to cover all 3 lines, and then ran back to the bus, we had a talk - we weren't going to survive!
F-100s were next. My mate gave me his camera - He did the logging of just ONE row - others were allocated for the other rows.
I used both cameras, taking pics alternately.
Long story, but the NASA 102 was on my camera and N300 the FAA one on his. He sold his negatives soon after and before I could scan his prints, had a roof leak!!
So no shots of N300
And we got the bus to drive to the far end to save us from running back

Thanks Arnold, another great selection of shots. I only saw a few in service, but have seen many preserved examples since then.

Hi Arnold :P

Yet another superb set

The Dagger always seemed to be overshadowed by the Dart ;)

Thanks for posting :thumb:

Interesting to see how few had the spraylat applied to the canopies, a sign perhaps of their ultimate fate at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.
Some nice memories there.

Great stuff Arnold, in 1982 we photographed some remaining Daggers at DM with white spraylat and in very poor condition :@ .

Hi Robert,

Here you see 56-2357 still in reasonable shape in 1975 although treated with enough spraylat.

Interesting to see both hard and soft edges on the camo in pic no.3. IPMS judges wouldn't like that

Arnold,

Apologies for jumping in, here are some of the remaining F-102's on the storage lines in October 1980:

And some F-102's that departed MASDC to fly again as target drones also October 1980.

I also like the ramp shots from Keith very much  .
