Hi
I don't know if this the right place to ask, but
Does anyone have any knowledge of Miramar, particularly if there any locations around the airfield where arrivals or departures can be photographed. I am planning to be in the area in March but google earth doesn't indicate any obvious public locations accessible near the airfield.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
Martin
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

Sadly since the Marines moved in you get chased off now if you stop under the approach and I don't think there's anywhere else close enough to photograph the residents. Better to drive out to El Centro and Imperial airport where you'll get many of the based helos and Ospreys practicing with great spots for photography. Always drop El Centro PAO an email to say you'll be outside the fence so security doesn't bother you.

There’s an aviation museum at Mirimar, The Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum. It’s not on base, but right next to it. Well worth a visit.

Fairly sure the museum is now closed, and they're supposed to be moving back to a new purpose built site at the old MCAS El Toro. If the frames are still at Miramar then most of them can bee seen from the main road - you just won't be able to get in amongst them.

That’s a shame, it was a great visit. Mind, that was 2019.Malcolm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 5:37 pmFairly sure the museum is now closed, and they're supposed to be moving back to a new purpose built site at the old MCAS El Toro. Hopefully if they get the move they’ll also be able to retain the ‘small and approachable’ atmosphere that they had at Mirimar.
