Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
I met a few of the team in the mid 80s when I was working/volunteering airside for a season at a few displays. Usual mix of good and arrogant types across all the crews you find anywhere, they had a very dedicated female following like you'd expect of rock stars which really surprised me.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
Time to close and disband this outfit. Move their story to the RAF archives and (re)focus attention and resources to the sharp end.
Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
Bin them ASAP. The only thing they get right is the flying.
The jets are 45 years old and the antics of the team members are an utter disgrace. As an ambassador for the Air Force they fail miserably and in no way project an appropriate image of 21st century air operations.
The great shame is the lack of a modern alternative to showcase the RAF

Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
Sky News now reporting Red 1 Wing Commander Dave ‘Monty’ Montenegro has been suspended for allegedly having a relationship with a junior member of his team.
Got to say, it looks like the demise of the team.

It's Red 11 - Officer Commanding RAFAT, a few links and chat about it yesterday on the previous page.
Such a shame when it goes all the way to the top.

Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
if memory serves me well it's not the first a relationship with a female in the team?
Comfortably Numb
Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
darn disgraceful.
if we all behaved that way, we would all be signing on...like I said earlier, they aren't gods

Might even help reduce the crowds
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
But less crowds means less income so puts event(s) at risk.
Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
I think it'd be a great shame to lose them, what's happening now is temporary, change of leadership and personnel could reverse the decline maybe, or perhaps the Black Arrows could be resurrected on Hawk T2s but I suspect we don't have enough airframes to support that kind of idea.

Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
Can’t use the Hawk T2s as I believe they are operated on a “by the hour” basis and supported by civilian contractors. The other option would be to order say 12 new builds exclusively for the arrows and in the current budget climate that ain’t going to happen.

Contracts can be changed/extended/added to!Nimrod2019 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:51 pmCan’t use the Hawk T2s as I believe they are operated on a “by the hour” basis and supported by civilian contractors. Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
The Hawk production line is now closed, and nothing short of a miracle ( and a large bag of cash) will bring it back.
Technically speaking, I would suspect the few issues here pales to insignificance on the US Navy Tailhook scandal.....
If anyone has done anything above the law, that some folks do on civvie street. Then let the RAF Police deal with it... I see a whole load of RAFP lurks on here....

Oh dear !
Disciplinary issues were traditionally dealt with internally. 'Going public', which feeds the media pirahnas and judgemental (clueless) individuals is often used as an attack strategy by those with 'agendas' either within or without the service.
I defy anyone to specify an organisation that doesn't exhibit human behavioural foibles to some degree.
This is manifestly an attack, both on the Reds and the RAF (Wigston et al)...and discredits a fine Service which continues, overall, to deliver the best service it can whilst being strangled by succesive governments and cost-focused 'gurus'.
Misdemeanours must be dealt with robustly and must be addressed ....but not with its ar*e hanging out publicly.
This is a fine organisation and every time this public roasting occurs it chips away at an already-sagging morale within.
Just sayin' .....

Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?
This isn’t a temporary issue though, it’s been widely known within the service for years even decades, that there has been this sense of being untouchable and being above everyone else from those in the team. Unfortunately it’s gone on without the publics awareness until very recently, and in exceptional cases was dealt with internally, but in this day and age when you’re a public figure representing not only your service but your country, any misdemeanours are going to make National news and rightfully so.

Let's hope the Reds have a great 2023
No doubting the skill and courage that is required to be part of the team
'Red Arrows pilot who landed safely after his aircraft's cockpit canopy smashed when it was hit by a seagull has been recognised for his actions
The bird strike happened as the Lincolnshire-based aerobatic team were performing a high-speed stunt in Rhyl, North Wales.'
