Once you lose the seafront airshows. Then pretty much all will fold.
Airshows took off years ago being major seaside events around the uk. Very few now, be even less once the climate goals for these towns have to be met. Even your big even like Riat will struggle.
The new king will most likley take the royal out of Riat.
A big climate change and green ambassdor is king Charles.

And a pilot at heart, so maybe not quite yet...

Remember he is now the head of the Armed Forces, despite the muppet show in Westminster holding the purse strings

So Sunderland air show being cancelled means all airshows will be cancelled? Really doubt that. Oh and having a go about the King is laughable.

Not to mention having a go at green muppets.. Kermit has nothing to do with this.

I think saying virtue signalling green muppets is trivialising what's happening globally, both climate change and people's reaction to it. Airshows, Formula 1, (and I hate to say it) music festivals are going to have to get 'greener' or disappear as they become increasingly unacceptable to the public at large. These events only go ahead because they attract a lot of punters, the hardcore enthusiast element isn't big enough to sustain them. With airshows its not just the participating aircraft that are the issue, but the huge numbers of cars and coaches and all the fuel they burn. I haven't been to Eastbourne for a few years but last time up on Beachy Head there were thousands of people, all of them drove, and the traffic getting down off the cliff top car parks was ridiculous. Last time I saw it from the town there were fights in the car parks as people squabbled over who saw a parking space first and the town was gridlocked, the pollution form that must have been horrific.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Being on the NE coast, Sunderland would be one of the first to see Putin's Air Show should a war break out. :)

Not sure how you conclude from 1 cancelled Air Show that the "royal" in RIAT will be dropped, but there you go. Not the strangest comment to ever see :S

Sad to hear this but not surprising, had hoped to return to Sunderland Airshow someday but sadly it’s not to be. Doesn’t bode well for other Shows as people have said.

Do not think its a once a year traffic, you look at football travel away matches every weekend and in the week games,
You cannot point your finger at airshows, would say that football travel in a week would out number the whole airshow season.
So know , i do not think airshows or music festivals should be forefront, for criticism or blame or a target.
Should Sunderland look at the travel of there much lived football club travel numbers per season 1st. Rather then a one off event weekend.?

I had considered football but they don't generate anywhere near the same number of vehicle journeys. My other half and son regularly go to games and I've been to one or two, just about everyone is on public transport, home and away fans. Apart from anything else most seem to like a drink before and aftrer the game. The premiership stadiums don't have a lot of parking space for cars as a rule.

Why not cancel Christmas, all those dam Christmas lights and people enjoying themselves.

Can I suggest we just try and cancel humans? All those cars, coaches and people who would have gone to watch an air show in Sunderland still exist, but will just go somewhere else, still burning fuel, using resources etc. and will continue to pop out yet more kids, mouths to feed, requiring more land to be repurposed etc etc…As an alternate view to climate change, how about we continue to live exactly as we do, but force humans to stop procreating quite so much?

Did someone compare football to an airshow lol

22 players kicking a ball for 90mins is the same comparison as 60 odd aircraft burning fuel for 8 hours lol oh my days 😂

Oh dear, no - the comparison was the carbon footprints involved in getting the spectators to each event. Or are you just taking the Mick?

think you missed the point. the point trying to be made was the hundreds of thousands of people travelling to and from games every weekend. a lot take public transport, but many have to drive to a station or to somewhere near the ground. there will be hundreds of extra buses each weekend taking supporters to and from games and they are not the greenest of vehicles on the road.
