Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre closure

Post by jingernut » Wed Aug 31, 2022 8:04 pm

Couldn't see this posted anywhere and was not sure which section to post it in.

The Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre is being evicted from their current location without offering a viable alternative site.

Petition here to try and help - https://www.change.org/p/save-cornwall- ... age-centre

Very sad news.

Amongst the vast collection is the last British military 1-11 to fly (flew into Newquay in 2013), Tornado GR4 'Shiny Two', the BP Balliol that appeared at Cosford Airshow in 2018, the Canberra T4 that was painted in the scheme of a prototype Canberra (VN799).

Lots of interesting aeroplanes, most of which would be easy to leave by road (that's how most of them arrived) but the VC10 and 1-11 surely won't be safe.

Hopefully a solution will be found soon, but things don't look too bright.

Another Aviation Museum biting the dust!

Post by fencer » Wed Aug 31, 2022 8:27 pm

To all members of 'Fighter Control' with an interest in aviation history and historical aircraft, may I draw your attention to the impending demise of a superb Museum, located at Newquay Airport, Cornwall. A privately funded Museum that has continued the legacy of the Classic Airforce, and is going from strength to strength each year.
It is now facing, like so many Aviation Museums, a closure enforced by the seemingly unreasonable action of the landlord. The aircraft collection includes two Hawker Hunters, Harrier GR3,Lightning F53,two Tornadoes F3 and GR4,, VC-10 K3 and BAC 1-11 to name but a few. Most of these aircrafts' cockpits are open to the public to sit in and the Museum has over the years become the regions top TripAdvisor attraction.
Alas the destruction of the VC-10 and BAC 1-11 will likely occur on the closure at the of October this year.
If the admin allow can I ask you to sign a petition to fight this closure on the link provided- https://chng.it/xGWgTpJMTH
I hope you can find time to sign the petition and help try and save an important collection of historic aircraft from destruction.
Thanks for reading this plea,
R. Mead.

Whilst nothing to do with the actual museum, I regret to say that I think the additional conditions of signing the petition (donate to the company hosting the petition etc) will put many off signing.

Having read numerous news articles today regarding this dreadful proposal to evict CAHC. from their current base, I see the last date to visit this superb establishment is possibly 31st October 2022 (Halloween!) :O
The current date for Cornwall Council to have vacant possession of the site is 31st March 2023. If you want to visit or revisit this presently thriving private Museum, then you need to get a wriggle on! ;)
Unlike Bruntingthorpe & Doncaster, there is a final opportunity to see the contents in one place before being scattered...or worse? No need to donate to get the message out there, just copy/paste & send to all!

It seems like certain landowners don't give a monkeys about preserving heritage. I thought the Bruntingthorpe situation was bad enough but looking at this list of the Newquay airframes this is almost equally as bad. Sad times.

Well this is not good news. I visited CAHC last summer and it was great.
Please sign the petition (you don’t have to donate) and forward to family and friends.

All,
There is more to this than you have discussed.
Take a look at https://www.pprune.org/aviation-history ... osses.html

There are a few more facts on there for you to consider.

I hope this has nothing to do with the virgin Spaceport and it is yet another council that needs closer inspection on its decision making and any council member involvement in what is proposed for the site. I Visited This High Value Educational Museum in 2020 and it should have planning protection to keep it open for the history and education of future generations especially as there is not a lot else in the south west.
