Boyrnemouth seafront show

Post by Hans08 » Sat Aug 27, 2022 8:41 pm

Hi,

I am interested in the aircraft that participate in this sea-front airshow. However, the sea-front is not good for photos as I need sun in the back. Can From which airbase(s) wi the aircraft fly for this show. Any help on good photo spots is highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Hans

lot of the aircraft are based at what used to be called Hurn Airport now giving its official title Bourneouth International Airport.

I guess it depends what sort of photos you want. You could go to Bournemouth Airport but then you'll miss the displays, but maybe that's ok if you just want to catch the aircraft. I think any viewing spots around the airport get pretty busy.
I don't find shooting southwards there too much of a problem, especially from the clifftop, you just have to compensate and it gets better as it gets toward late afternoon.
Biggest problem last year was haze. On a couple of days the Isle Of Wight wasn't even visible and hardly any of my photos were really clear.
As I say, all depends what you're after, good luck.

Looking at the lineup, I’m not sure how much will be staying at Bournemouth airport. BBMF, Typhoon and Red Arrows are almost certain but some of the remaining will probably fly in from their home stations/ airports. The cliff top can give some great views and pictures, especially of low flying helicopters with a back drop of boats and Warships (if any are available this year). The only disadvantage is shooting into the sun.

As far as I am aware, everything bar the Swordfish is going to be based for the weekend. With fuel prices as they currently are it would make no sense for a display aircraft to transit to and from its base every day for four days of display flying
Cheers

Hans,
There are trips organised to watch the air show from at sea. If you look up 'Steamship Shieldhall', their website has the details. I've not tried it, so you'll have to make your own mind up about it.

Paul

A couple of updates:

A USAF B-52H will be conducting a flypast at 16.15 on Saturday along the seafront - https://www.air-shows.org.uk/2022/09/ai ... -festival/

The Swordfish is not ready in time so the Royal sequence of flypast and solo displays will be Wildcat and Wasp.

I watched the Reds overfly Banbury due SW in transit to Bournemouth earlier today.

Nothing unusual about that but a few minutes ago XX202 just overflew due NE @3,000 feet @500mph which is much higher & faster than usual.

I wonder what he has forgotten? :P

A map maybe if he is looking for Boyrnemouth… :thumb:

Reds display cut short just after the halfway point in the display today (first synchro pass). Seems Red 6 had engine issues this time and had to depart back to Bournemouth.

Not having the best of seasons are they?

Did you make note of the display frequency in use for Bournemouth, please?

XX202 which returned to Scampton late afternoon seems to be a black frame, not one of the usual display team?

XX202 isnt a "black jet", it was repainted at RAF Leeming and delivered to the Reds on 30 May. (See the RAF Leeming section)

Almost everything is operating from Bournemouth

The T67 Firefly is operating direct from Redhill

The Wasp is operating from Yeovilton

Not too bad an event overall. Even the predicted bad weather didn't happen.

Pretty much your run of the mill seaside show as far as flying acts go, but nice to see a B52 in the Bournemouth skies.

Otto the helicopter is insane, and a great act for the night air displays. :Wow:
