Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
Yea that was exactly it Ollie, due to its parking slot it needed to be one of the first to arrive but wasn't able to make it for some reason and RIAT said not to bother coming - got this from head of air ops at RIAT.
Hopefully doesn't happen this time.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
While most of the discussion has been anout the B52, What has gone under the radar is the Support the Irish Air Corps are giving this year is absolutely fantastic in their 100th year. The addition of the IAC PC12 may well actually be an Airshow debut given the first show in Ireland doesn't happen until the week after RIAT and they are new to service.
IAC only has around 16 planes, so roughly a 3rd of their fixed wing fleet will be at RIAT (Note - Planes not Helicopters, if we go by their full fleet its roughly a 5th of their entire fleet which is still fantastic support)

I don’t think we’re far from an update of:
Soiled Nappy (F)
And everyone would be saying “great update well done DBH”
The Blades (whilst certainly made up of superb pilots) are a country fair/village fetes act
Certainly, my comments will draw those out for whom RIAT can do no wrong but, thankfully, this is an open discussion forum

I don't expect much more to be announced now before the show starts.
India were down for attending Cobra Warrior earlier this year with their HAL Tejas jets, until a spanner was Putin the works.
Never know, may get an update announcing these given another Cobra Warrior exercise is supposedly in the planning.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
In all the years I've been going, I don't recall there ever being a spare aircraft for any of the big 3 from the US. Always 1 Buff and /or Bone northside, usually another in the static. I also believe there has never been more than one B-2 at any point in time at any RIAT.

There were 2 B-1s in the 1997 display, both flying - one in the special flypast at the end and another for the main display - never understood why they sent two!

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
According to the very excellent RIAT 50th Anniversary book, one came from USAF Air Combat Command (37th BS) and the other from Kansas ANG 127th BS. I guess RIAT & USAF wanted both the full-time Air Force and ANG represented in the flying display.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
I'm certain there were 4 B-1s at IAT '97. An Ellsworth pair from the 37th BS both with the special marks for the Tiger Meet, and a Kansas ANG pair. One of each in the static and flying display respectively. The Kansas ANG jet in the static park was the boss' jet too if I remember correctly so it also had nice markings on it.

Yeah thats correct, Definately four B-1's on the ground, also two B-52's and a B-2.
What a time for airshows that was.

Fingers crossed for the B-1 and E-4B (unless you meant the US Navy E-6B) attendingGoldenPlane wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 5:58 pmMe neither, but just wanted to share the info…stealth1234 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 9:56 amI will pay you £50 if this is true. I can't see it being confirmed![]()

Wasn't there a SU-30 in the flying display and static in 2007 along with one of there transport planes? I forget what type. I seem to remember the flying display was quite impressive. I hope I've recalled that right it was a few years ago now.milaviation wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 4:42 pmApparently India haven’t been to a RIAT ever
