Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2022
With a month to go do we think the flying list will expand much? There isn't even much RAF stuff this year, which is odd as it's RAF organised... Would love to see the A-400 or the Rivet Joint.
Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2022
Purely speculation on my behalf but I suppose any fly pasts would be added rather late, The Voyagers/C-17/Rivet Joints are pretty busy at the minute with Eastern Europe. It would be nice if they could do something with the Herc's while they're still here.
Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2022
Just seen on Twitter that a flypast by an A400M is confirmed for the air show

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2022
As you can see from the attached images, work is underway to start to prepare the Cosford Air Show for this Sunday. Aircraft are starting to be moved into position and vendors are arriving. Work continues apace to finalise the flying display; this will likely continue up until the day prior to the air show. We have not yet announced all of the aircraft taking part.
This year has presented many unique challenges for the team who are making the air show happen. From announcing that the air show would take place less than 5 months ago we are now, after a Covid-enforced 3-year break, going to deliver a spectacular day. As in previous years, where we had longer to plan, we had fully intended to deliver a 6-hour flying display but that has proved not to be possible. Rather this year, we will deliver a full afternoon of flying which will include, among others, the RAF Falcons, RAF Red Arrows, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Typhoon Display, Chinook Display, French Rafale, Belgian F16 and, for the first time, an RAF F35B Lightning.
As you know, an air show is so much more than a flying display. On the ground there will be a stunning Coronation Village, dozens of static aircraft – some of which you can climb in – as well as aeronautical engineering displays from the RAF and some of our Defence partners. Whether you are 8 or 80, there is going to be something for everyone.
It is going to be a great day and we look forward to welcoming you all on Sunday.

Not sure what to make of that. As I missed out on tickets it doesn't effect me at all, but I think I'd be annoyed had I forked out only to be told with a few days to go that there's going to a much shorter display. Though TBF it was obvious by the amoubt acts that had been confirmed thus far..jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 4:48 pmAs in previous years, where we had longer to plan, we had fully intended to deliver a 6-hour flying display but that has proved not to be possible. Rumours of them not even responding to the Strikemaster pair. Plenty of acts they could have booked, including those Strikemasters but also the Vampire, some warbirds from duxford, Gazelle squadron, one of the heritage helicopters flying. Suggests the decision is a financial one - but its still a sell out.seven wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 5:22 pmNot sure what to make of that. Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2022
Strikemaster pair and Vampire might have extra restrictions for Cosford - believe civil jets are only permitted to do simple manouvaers if they are straight winged - with the surrounding area being quite populated it might have made a display unworkable. It is a small show, but after the past few years, a show at all is a massive improvement.

Also, why is a Mercedes G Wagon listed as Static?

Jet Provost's have displayed there in 2018 and 2019 without any problems.....reaper493 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 7:53 amStrikemaster pair and Vampire might have extra restrictions for Cosford - believe civil jets are only permitted to do simple manouvaers if they are straight winged - with the surrounding area being quite populated it might have made a display unworkable. Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2022
Straight wing classic jets are permitted to fly their normal aerobatic displays (as from 2018 - https://www.air-shows.org.uk/2018/02/airshow-news-straight-wing-ex-military-jet-aircraft-cleared-to-conduct-full-aerobatic-displays-at-uk-airshows/)
There are however quite a few challenges at Cosford this year.
They started late with the go-ahead decision only made in January.
They lost some permanent staff during COVID (like many other shows) and are still rebuilding. (and as a result are more reliant on seconded personnel)
They don't have have the use (or have much more limited use) of local university accommodations so their costs are a lot higher this year as they are using hotels.
Some civilian teams have issues with the level of insurance cover required to fly at events over military property. (The one-off surcharges for this have become unaffordable with some insurers - this is not so much an issue of the type of aircraft , more to do with differences between different underwriters)
