All this reminiscing reminds me of the 1990 Battle of Britain Flypast, the whole flypast using Wittering as a datum. They were the days ;-)

For a few years I have wanted to go to Cranwell to see a practice but life and work have always conspired to get in the way. Its about an hours drive for me. But this year I can finally make it and I do not want to mess it up.

Photos on Valley Facebook page from today's practice - 1x Phenom leading 4 Texans.

That would explain the Camel callsign over Valley Today.

Texans will be in formaion with a Phenom.
Sneak Preview of Platinum Jubilee Fly-past
Platinum Jubilee fever began to kick-in at RAF Valley as 72(F) Squadron spent most of the day preparing to honour Her Majesty in just a few short weeks from now. Several Valley Instructors will have the honour of saluting Her Majesty as they fly down the Mall and over the balcony of Buckingham Palace in their Texan T Mk 1 aircraft; some of which have just been named in honour of Welsh Battle of Britain heroes. The images show four 72(F) Squadron Texans in formation behind a Phenom of 45 Squadron.

72(F)Squadron CO, Wing Commander Chris Ball - who has flown some of the world's most advanced aircraft - such as the F-15 on exchange with the US Air Force and Tornado on several operational deployments in his career, said that he and his instructors see this opportunity to salute our Commander-in-Chief in this manner and on this day, as one of the greatest honours in their Air Force Careers. Let us hope the weather in London on the day as good as it was this afternoon at Valley. The images make it all look easy but it takes lots of practice and experience to get these formations in perfect shape.

Each element seems to be doing their own practice and then starting on the 24th they all join in for a full rehearsal involving getting all the timings correct for the different speed aircraft.

All will be revealed on the day, weather permitting. Red Arrows and BBMF do not normally take part in the practice, the Reds often represented by a solitary Hawk.

Hi,
Various media report that the FAA and the AAC are joining the flypast giving a total number of 70 plus aircraft.

My list of 2 weeks ago had only 2 x Texan's and a incorrect practice date
Now we know of a segment of a Phenom and 4 x Texan's
Just shows how things can change and/or incorrect info
If it's true about the Army and Navy joining in.
The World and his Uncle will be at Cranwell
It will be like going to Lakenheath,a early start to do the 29 miles and get a place

Believe 2 Wildcats and a Merlin were in formation recently (could be the other way around can't quite remember) so make of that what you will.

Do you think there is any chance of the police shutting any surrounding local roads or at least putting out no stopping cones.

Reminds me of the time the boys in blue turned up at 08.00 at Selhurst Park to put out cones before FA Cup tickets went on sale at 09.00, but found no road space as all the fans had arrived at 07.00 and already parked.

So no routing over Marham now by the looks of things.

Anybody tried the City airport area for previous flypasts?
Have used Waterloo Bridge before but congestion charge puts me off plus parking.

We park at Heathrow and get the tube into the center far more cost effective, any out of city tube station would do of course
