Re: Queens birthday Flypast
Have to wait until nearer the time for the NOTAMs
Re: Queens birthday Flypast
Don't forget the actual day has changed this year, Queens Birthday Parade/ Trooping the colour is on Thursday to fit in with the Queens Jubilee so rehersals may be earlier too
Re: Queens birthday Flypast
It may also depend on HMQ's health, which does not appear to be that good at the moment.
Re: Queens birthday Flypast
No doubt the RAF will be planning for success though. It is a significant anniversary after all. Question is, do they have enough aircraft to do a special 70 formation?
Re: Queens birthday Flypast
15 Hawk T2s operating out of Brize for this event!
Re: Queens birthday Flypast
It's also earlier this year as Trooping the colour is on the Thursday. And the start of the Celebratory longer Bank Holiday for HM QE being on the throne for 70 years

Verreli
As they managed quite well for the RAF 100 why would they struggle for this. Sure they have retired the Sentry and Sentinel and BAE 146 fleets. But that accounted for 3 aircraft in that. Apart from less Hawk.T.1s what's changed.
Granted it's not quite as big as when my grandfather served in it in 1952. But there you go

For the 60th they flew a special E2R formation consisting of 27 Hawks, a 60 formation consisting of 20 Tucanos and a 9 ship of Typhoons.
For the 100 formation they flew 21 Typhoons.
From XA310's post it looks like a smaller 70 formation consisting of of 13 Hawks (+2 spare) may be on the cards but no 'special' formation like the E2R unless the Typhoons do something as well.
I'm pleased I made the effort to go to Windsor to see the E2R formation - it was one of my 'wow' aviation moments, I'll be in London for Trooping the Colour but don't expect to see anything quite as good - although a crown formation of Typhoons would be memorable. This anniversary is unlikely to ever be repeated. It would be nice to make a big effort if possible.

Would not be surprised if the Australia, Canada and New Zealand do not join the flypast this year.

They've also lost vrhe Tucanno and the Tornado. Granted they've gained the F 35 butvn very small numbers.
Re: Queens birthday Flypast
One of my regrets was not going to see the 2018 London fly past despite being in London that day. Light wasn’t brilliant from what I’ve seen but even since then the variety has dwindled quite significantly.

Re: Queens birthday Flypast
I had a prime spot for the 2018 flypast; I timed it so I was at the highest observation point of St Paul's cathedral for the flypast which, considering the queue to get there and the clock ticking down, was no mean feat. Honestly, I was under-whelmed. The 100 formation was ok - certainly not wow like the E2R formation. I was expecting more and the spacing between groups was so long that, as an aviation enthusiast, I was getting a bit bored by the end. I expect the queen was secretly wishing it over and was delighted when the Red Arrows eventually turned up.

I think it was 2019 that the practice airfield was over Marham.

Re: Queens birthday Flypast
I don't remember the 2019 flypast or the practice over Marham
Anyone got ant details on the 2019 event
Like most people I am expecting the practice to be over Cranwell
The Hawk T2's is a nice start

Re: Queens birthday Flypast
This always used to be a highlight.
At one time the practice and meet up on the day occurred almost overhead from a Great Yarmouth perspective.
I once took a friend to Gorleston Cliffs and we sat in deckchairs watching the planes approaching from a Beccles direction and passing directly overhead. We then raced back to hers and watched it on TV with her hubby.
On another occasion I persuaded a chap at work who I’d never spoken to before that it was well worth going to Blythburgh to see the final pass with Concorde and the Red Arrows. He was into planes but had never been to an air show. He couldn’t believe how good it was even though it didn’t last long. I made a friend there.
Over the years it gradually got further and further out to sea. At the end of Gorleston Pier you could just about see them with binoculars. I gave up going to Southwold, not worth it for one pass.
I don’t know if regulations changed or if the PC police messed it up but I do miss it.
With all due respect to the Queen she only got to see it go over once. We saw it many times both on the day and the practice.
Happy Birthday Ma’am.
To anyone who’s upset that I mentioned Concorde on a Mil Forum. Tough, it’s relevant and awesome !
