Aardvarks - Part2

Post by dennis273 » Wed Mar 23, 2022 1:49 pm

Only ever managed to get a couple of 111Ds

F-111F 70-2366 48TFW Coltishall 18th September 1980 - now with black code

When I was stationed at North Coates and was bored (i.e.all the time!) I used to stand outside my office and watch Upper Heyford's 111s on the range at Donna Nook

Thanks for sharing these, another welcome selection of shots of F-111s. I remember seeing some of the CC aircraft when they came over on deployments. I recall seeing a couple of FB-111s at Mildenhall one year, just wondering if they came over more often.

Lucky catch with # 1 - part of the `Coronet Kingfisher` deployment to Oslo - Gardermoen and one that I managed to miss! I did however, see 37 other F-111D's in the UK.

I saw 15 (of the 16 FB-111A's) that came to the UK. First to visit were 68-0246/340th BG and 68-0266/509th BW which took part in the RAF Strike Command's Bombing and Navigation Competition at Marham in April'71. According to the USAF they participated in a "demonstration capacity". Another noteworthy visit was by 5 a/c from the 509th BW which took part in the RAF's Tactical Bombing Competition held at Waddington in July'86 - these staged through Lakenheath.

Nice shots, especially Cannon AFB frames with white tail lettering, but all are good.

Excellent 3 posts, who doesn't love the F-111.

Very nice

Still have memories of UH swingers rattling my car as they line up on 27 and ' afterburner 1 , afterburner 2'

Flamborough Head was one of their favourite haunts when they called up to taxy
