Time to make the whole of Russia turn against Putin.

Start with a ban on all Russian flights and overflights involving as many countries as possible. (This would be much later in a sanctions package)

A total ban on any spares from Boeing and Airbus.(probably just before the above)

A ban on Land Registry accepting purchases of UK property by Russian nationals.(reasonably early on and would be unlikly to affect President Putins thinking anyway

Closure of Russian banks in London.(and in Paris, Berlin, New York etc etc) this is a world wide issue not UK-Russia issue

Cyber attacks on Russian energy and banking businesses. Flood the radiowaves with messages to Russian citizens telling them why we are retaliating to Putin’s warmongering. (now your are getting into the realms of Hollywood and would be classed as an act of war by Russia

That would be a starting package.

As I suggested back in January. The staff also should be considering what should not be posted, aviation wise, if the invasion of Ukraine escalates to a full blown conflict.

As no Western forces are involved in conflict and every reconnaissance flight since the beginning of the year(and beyond) has been reported what is there to gain by not discussing aviation moves here or on this forum

I sort of see what you are thinking but at this point it makes no difference as to what is discussed

A lot of Eastern European countries feel threatened by Russia, even more so after last night’s developments. For our hobby it might be an interesting time ahead. There’s a possibility the US might send more aircraft to Europe as a sign of support. Alone, Europe can’t handle the situation, so Uncle Sam might be helpful.

We and the EU rely on Russia for Oil, gas, grain, metals.

Those sanctions need to be highly targeted otherwise it is the small people that suffer. ie US !

It wouldn't be too much to ask the government to un-enoble Lord Lebedev, to remove him from the house of Lords, Russian and son of the Russian former KGB agent Alexander Lebedev. That we have an unelected Russian in the house of Lords having influence over laws that affect you and I that we don't (sovereignty anyone?!) is just madness. Whilst he's there as reward from the current PM for the free holidays and decorating etc surely it's not in our best interests?

This thread as a whole is not aviation related its about the Ukraine/Russia situation. As mentioned before, move it to general chat or give it its own sub section like the Fairford B-52 deployments as it could go on and on for sometime.

Personally yes I would, I would like to feel that as a nation we could seriously defend ourselves with less reliance on partners and allies.
The idea that cordial relationships with nations like Russia mean no need for fit for purpose armed forces has been disproved.

It’s a wide ranging subject for discussion but it is too late now to spend for today’s conflict(s). Europe should perhaps act as a unified political group. The question then is ‘ which political group’?

As the vast majority of airliners operated by Russian airlines are registered in the British Virgin Islands (a British Overseas Territory) perhaps we should remove that privilege as I gather it avoids paying a lot of taxes.
