Mildenhall & Lakenheath snaps

Post by Strix Photos » Thu Feb 17, 2022 11:37 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums, but you might know me from instagram where I have posted regularly. I only have been photographing mil aircraft for few months now (as I moved very close to both bases), so i'm very new to it and still learning the best spots and shots and all the settings that come with owning a Canon camera. Hope they are ok compared to some of the amazing shots I see around here! I hope you enjoy this recent mix of Mildenhall & Lakenheath movements taken from late last year (2020) till as recently as this week!

If these are just "snaps" I would love to see some "proper" photos! Great set of images. What camera & lens(es)do you use?

Lucky to be living in such a great area near MH and LH, so I am able to pop-up quickly if its quiet enough at work! Glad to caught a nice variety already despite being very new to it!

Haha thanks, i'm still learning! I'm hoping to get to the Mach Loop and other bases this year to give myself a bit of a challenge. I used a second hand Canon 7D Mark II which came with a 100-400mm Canon Lens (Mark I i believe) and a 1.4x Extender. I have been thinking about saving up in the future for a different body however, since I do find the 7D Mark II to be a bit noisy and not great in low light, however I am very happy with it for now as i'm quite new to it all.

The sunset was out of this world that day, really just orange and beautiful. Glad I could get a few good shots out of it.

These are very nice - the autumn/winter light is so great for photography. Love the RC-135U, one I hope to catch myself one day.

You'll know me from Instagram too (@StrikeEagle492).

I really have been lucky to get out during some really lovely days. The RC-135U was a surprise one! Was about to leave (since it seemed quiet) until someone said "hold up, shark teeth is coming in!" worth the wait :D

It really has been a lovely mild winter and great for light recently (besides the storm)

Thank you! Although I wish I had a camera body that would perform a bit better in low light. The Canon 7D Mark II holds up very well, but only in favourable conditions.
