ZE701 is due at Duxford on Monday
Good morning. Today we can finally put to rest the many rumours and unanswered questions about the #BritishAirlinerCollection that have been floating about the last few weeks. We can now confirm a BAe146 will be replacing the Herald in our collection, please see the following press release from our Board
British Aerospace 146 ZE701 from the RAF's No.32 Squadron( The Royal Squadron) is flying into #Duxford on 24th January to retire and join the British Airliner Collection.
The most successful British jet airliner, the #BAe146 is an important addition to the world's premier collection of post-Second World War British civil airliners at #IWMDuxford which attracts thousands of visitors from the UK and overseas and includes icons of aviation such as the VC10 and Concorde 101.
ZE701 is one of two BAe 146 Statesman VIP models that were owned by the #RAF. In 1986 when it was delivered to the RAF it was part of what was then called the #QueensFlight. In 1995 the Queens flight was merged with No32 Squadron, which then became the Royal Squadron.
After landing , the aircraft will remain airside, near AirSpace where visitors can view the decommissioning process and preparation for display.
When the works are completed the aircraft will take its place in the display line , next to the VC10 and will be open for visitors during the summer. End.
Please note that with winter opening times Duxford WILL NOT be open to the public on the 24th January.
We have had to move one of our aircraft out of Duxford to accommodate the BAe146 and we are pleased to announce another museum with an excellent record for conservation and display will be taking our Herald on long term loan. Consequently she has been moved to the end of the apron to allow dismantling for shipping to her new home. #DAS have started the procedure but a dismantling contractor will complete the task over the next few weeks. We are just dotting the 'Is' and crossing the 'Ts' but hope to reveal her new home to you next week.

Another example of the RAF retiring a type before its replacement has been delivered.

Aside from Boris Farce 1 when not tanking, and the pair of A321s at Stansted. A further replacement is on the cards.
Re: BAE 146 fleet retirement plans (preserved)
Be good to see a 146 on display at Duxford, Is there any truth regarding the Airbus A.319 in BEA Colours going to Duxford?

Aside from the no more than 13 rule. Hence the loaning out the Herald to make way for the 146.

Re: BAE 146 fleet retirement plans (preserved)
The A321s are contracted by the Cabinet Office for government VIP use, they are not used for the UK military Command Support Air Transport (CSAT) mission.
CSAT mission will be performed by two second-hand business jets, initially flown on the G-register.

Re: BAE 146 fleet retirement plans (preserved)
I presume it will take several months to prepare the 146 for public access?
