Re: Harriers Final goodbye happenings :(
I would guess that Cottesmore will be stuffed full of photographers on these days then!
I don't suppose anyone knows if the jets are planned to land back at Cottesmore after the flypast, or go to Wittering?

I was under the impression that the aircraft were to be decomissioned at Wittering? Or have I not been listening very well!

Re: Harriers Final goodbye happenings :(
I would say they will land at cottesmore as they are going to be stored there.

At dunsfold the 4sqn groundcrew kindly explained that all the harriers from the flypast will be mothballed at cottesmore straight from landing with out after flight servicing

May the skies be clear and blue and the wind fair with a guiding star to steer by.

I reckon half the world and his wife (and kids) will be there when the final flypast happens. Bearing in mind that it's MOD property and H&S regs have to be adhered to, it would be nice if the authorities could open the doors to joe public just for one last look...

Re: Harriers Final goodbye happenings :(
You can't sell the Harriers. Some Harrier parts will help to keep the GR.4 force flying.

It doesn't mean they will be, but they are definitely available..............
Re: Harriers Final goodbye happenings :(
There is a lot of hi tech kit on a Harrier just guessing that we might NOT want to sell it on.
I would be surprised if the two seaters are not bought by either Spain or Italy (maybe even USMC) Training aircraft hours are always at a premium, and for basic type conversion I doubt the UK avionics fit will bother the other countries mentioned.
I would also have thought any plan to sell Harriers overseas would be brokered by BAe as they will be the ones to make money out of the type support and long term maintance. Remember how Hawkers bought loads of Hunters back from RAF, and others, to resell.

Cottesmore still closed, ATIS switched off
Coningsby, Cranwell, Barkston Heath, Wittering are all closed too. Waddington ATIS is broadcasting but stating that its "black" until further notice.
Another quiet day on the scanner. At least the Americans are flying
