Red Arrows Hawk
Just noted one of the above more than likely inbound to Valley(12:55hrs) any ID appreciated if anyone picked it up.
Re: Red Arrows Hawk
It would have been XX295 out on an air test as Pirate11 as per my thread

Re: Red Arrows Hawk
Cheers Ianto31, just confused with the Pirate call sign which suggested a navy T1.
Re: Red Arrows Hawk
Pirate is a 100 sqn callsign (Leeming).

Re: Red Arrows Hawk
This would've been the one I saw outside the Valley Gaydon hangar a week and a half ago, couldn't make out whether it was XX235 or XX295. Was viewed from the distant 13 end and was in full Red Arrows colours. So XX295 is a new one for the Reds.

XX295 came out of storage at Shawbury earlier this year after being there since 2006.

If the Reds are going to fly the Hawk T1 until 2030 (or longer), let's hope the bean counters appreciate what an asset they have in the AMRO workforce.

Quite right, some specialist skills+knowledge and lots of experience which are difficult to find out there.Bluerigger1 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 6:28 pmIf the Reds are going to fly the Hawk T1 until 2030 (or longer), let's hope the bean counters appreciate what an asset they have in the AMRO workforce.

Re: Red Arrows Hawk
Just noted XX325 landing at Valley in Red Arrows livery and also XX161 departing.
Re: Red Arrows Hawk
Unrelated to the above, XX325 came in as 'Scampton04' and XX161 left as 'Cougar2'Sparky 119 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 1:20 pmJust noted XX325 landing at Valley in Red Arrows livery and also XX161 departing.
Re: Red Arrows Hawk
Red 5 is in bound to Scampton now, tracking as Pirate 11/ 43C440, guessing this is XX295 whose not updated his box?
Re: Red Arrows Hawk
Heard Red 4 on Swanwick 17.00L back to ScamptonIanto31 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 2:17 pmUnrelated to the above, XX325 came in as 'Scampton04' and XX161 left as 'Cougar2'Sparky 119 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 1:20 pmJust noted XX325 landing at Valley in Red Arrows livery and also XX161 departing.
Re: Red Arrows Hawk
XX295 departed Valley as Red 5 closely followed by XX325 as Red 4.

Re: Red Arrows Hawk
XX157 arrived in AMRO on the back of a truck from Shawbury today where it's been in storage since 2018. This aircraft is the latest conversion for the Red Arrows following XX295 and will be oldest airworthy UK Hawk T1 when completed.

Another one of our old 63 Sqn airframes going to the Reds.Bluerigger1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:56 pmXX157 arrived in AMRO on the back of a truck from Shawbury today where it's been in storage since 2018. I recall the time she met a Jag head on at low level in Wales and a certain instructor over stressed the airframe to 13.5g!
She spent the rest of the day on jacks in the shed and was back out on the line the following morning.
Probably a ‘trigger’s broom’ by now though.

Re: Red Arrows Hawk
All the T1's are a "Triggers Broom", following new wings (Mod.999), centre-rear Fuselage (Mod.2010, but not the RAFCAM airframes) and new tailplane (Mod.1830), leaving the main original component (and the structural life-limiting one) the forward fuselage. However, all of the "bits" (Fin, airbrake, canopy, Flaps etc.) are 40+ years old but are still quite robust. Not bad for a 6,000 flying hour design, now into 10,000+ !

Re: Red Arrows Hawk
Following an inspection of the airframe XX157 was found to be unsuitable for conversion and has been placed into storage pending a decision on any future use. The issue appears to date back to it's previous use as a trials aircraft which compromises the avionics modification needed to bring it up to Red Arrows standard.Bluerigger1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:56 pmXX157 arrived in AMRO on the back of a truck from Shawbury today where it's been in storage since 2018. RAFCAM is RAF Centre of Aviation Medicine (or something like that) - they have / had very few Hawks, maybe only two or three?teeonefixer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 8:51 amAll the T1's are a "Triggers Broom", following new wings (Mod.999), centre-rear Fuselage (Mod.2010, but not the RAFCAM airframes) and new tailplane (Mod.1830), leaving the main original component (and the structural life-limiting one) the forward fuselage. XX162 and XX327 have been with RAFCAM for donkeys years (will have to check if they were the originals). They have special instrumentation to carry out trials (e.g. on aircrew equipment) and are both cleared to +9g (+8g for the standard T.Mk.1). I presume their OSD has been brought forward as well to 2022, although I haven't seen it specifically stated.
