Brize runway Black

Post by thevulcan » Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:28 pm

Brizes runway is currently down and unserviceable due to the tarmac melting.

ZZ333 is at RAF mildenhall for QRA after diverting to EMA yesterday rather lucky as otherwise the UK would have no QRA tankers.

Post by thevulcan » Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:33 pm

RAF Brize Norton's runway is currently code Black due to the runway surface melting yesterday so far no movements have occurred since the damage was created yesterday.

RAF Mildenhall:
ZZ333 Voyager on QRA duties while the runway is being repaired. This aircraft diverted to EMA yesterday due to the damage.

The problem area of the runway is reportedly mainly from the mid-point intersection to the West.
I suspect yesterday's and this morning's departures were instructed to rotate before the intersection on a 25 departure direction. Not an issue for C130 and A400....close for a C17 with a load on.

It is maybe easier for the departing transports flights, C-130, A400 and C-17, to avoid certain parts of the runway and deploy or return to alternative airfields.
Of more concern must be the tanker operations, unless the A330 is simply relocating to another airfield, all missions either deployment support, standard AAR training or QRA will require maximum fuel and thus maximum runway.

It was just lucky ZZ333 diverted to EMA on Monday and then moved to mildenhall to take up QRA duties. G-VYGL is at Stansted airport and should be doing the Falklands flight today from Stansted.

Runway is still not fixed should be fixed by Monday about a 400m stretch is broken. Aircraft are turning off at the middle intersection and have been given permission to use full reverse thrust.

Assume then that ops are ok if on easterlies? and that movements are limited to A400/C-17A and C-130 still?
