Afternoon all. Hope everyone is well.
Firstly. Apologies for the new thread on this matter, and if it’s posted in the wrong place again, apologies.
With potentially being able (restrictions pending), a long awaited return to Lossie for a week is pencilled in. But, before anything is confirmed, 2 things that come to mind are
- how active are the local phoons at present?
- With JW around the corner; will Lossiemouth be hosting the usual foreign MPAs?
Thanks in advance. And hopefully manage to catch some of you if all goes to plan

Re: Info request!
Just to be safe, I'd check the Scottish Government website for updates. I believe accommodation will be opening up from the 26th. There will still be some limitations on food outlets though.
Flying wise I'm not sure. The RAF P8s seem to have been reasonably active but the USN jets may disappear or perhaps be swapped over for a different unit. No info on Typhoons other than they have been doing some night flying judging by the presence of a tanker most evenings.

Re: Info request!
Lossiemouth is very quiet Typhoon wise at present and they have only been flying evening sorties for the last couple of weeks. No 1 Sqn is away, No 9 Sqn are going away very soon and are in quarantine, No 6 Sqn will replace 1 Sqn and are just about worked up, and 2 Sqn are also going away. The month of May will be very very quiet.Len123 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 11:34 amAfternoon all. Hope everyone is well.

Nothing known about any visiting MPAs to Lossie for Joint Warrior
RAF P8s are active, usually two a day, but not always, but they do park them outside
There is extremely limited car parking now at the 23 End, vehicles cannot get down the West side 23 End track as its been blocked off since December. The East side (up to the bunker) is also very limited and if you opt to use it you may be challenged by the Golf Course green keepers and RAF Police if you park next to the Base fence.
The 05 End is just the same.

Re: Info request!
Hope you do not mind if I join this conversation but I have in mind a visit across the border for the first time in decades.
Original plan was to come to Perth for the LAA civil fly-in/tour then head for Aberdeen and Lossie during the 1st. week of June.
The P8s are the attraction as I am too old to wait for them all to come south for RIAT shows! Typhoons will be a bonus as Coningsby is
in my "day out" driving range at the moment.
Any comments / advice will be welcome, good or not so good, it will all help to make the decision.
Keep SAFE... Mike

Re: Info request!
Bear in mind the rules on travel in Scotland are still different from England and crossing the border is still off limits (both ways which is physically not policeable), really no idea why but Ms Sturgeon has to be different, just because she does.Mike@Heathrow wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 11:10 pmHope you do not mind if I join this conversation but I have in mind a visit across the border for the first time in decades.

Re: Info request!
Thanks Bluetail, yes I am aware of the variations across the border. I believe there is an update around the 12th. of May so nothing booked yet that will cost me money to cancel. The real thing that is out of everyones control is the weather but "we are a hardy breed, us spotters" is what I told my wife.

Re: Info request!
Just checking, is the path along the 'top' at the 23 end blocked completely for parking or can you park at what would have been the entrance(just as you entered it off the road)?

Re: Info request!
From what I saw yesterday there is pretty much nowhere to park there now on that side either, there were 2 cars parked at a small layby (looked temporary) and could maybe get 3 in it at mostSquire of the Gate wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 3:05 pmJust checking, is the path along the 'top' at the 23 end blocked completely for parking or can you park at what would have been the entrance(just as you entered it off the road)?
