Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
I know, I was the one who posted the link to the ROW website. I guess time will tell how well and/or sensibly these new restrictions will be policed. I'm all for right of access as per the law btw so I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade.James Cutting wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 8:43 amDown the track? Past the burger van? That point's been discuss previously, it's a public footpath.

The other day there was a wooden footpath sign in place - is that still there?

I can't I noticed I'm afraid as I was sat in the car 99% of the time. "Nil points" for observation on my part!

The No Entry signs will be removed soon as the land owner didn't put them up, one of the residents put them up along with the Fencing they are attached to.
Very soon the Council are going to install logs all the way along the verges, that run past the viewing area car Park right down to Wangford road.
Some of the local residents mentioned trying to buy the Tarmac road ,that runs from the bottom of Wangford road right through past the viewing area and down towards the old derelict building .

Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
I have been going to Lakenheath since The f4 days.Like everywhere else more and more people come to watch The jets. The viewing area is not fit for purpose it's way too small. The answer is too increase it from the wangford road turn off to the existing viewing site. That way no cars parked on verges none on the main road. Keeps the locals happy and the roads clear.
Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
Sadly viewing areas are not in the DoD budget. So a larger site is not going to happen unless someone coughs up the cash.
Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
You appear to be a bit out of touch. The area you are referring to is the protected area so there is a 100% guarantee that your suggestion will never happen.65thAgressor wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 7:18 amI have been going to Lakenheath since The f4 days.Like everywhere else more and more people come to watch The jets. The viewing area is not fit for purpose it's way too small. "Appear to be out of touch" - Not really. Sure that a lot of people don't know that it's protected.
Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
At the end of the day its all about getting that perfect shot and the veiwing car park is no good for that until later in the day,so most will park away from there. Some will use it and walk up the lane and walk down on to the 1065 if they can not get parked up.,Untill they put yellow lines down or red line it like they did at EMA around the airport this will not go away.

Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
It does surprise me they're are no yellow lines like scampton,Waddington and coningsby. If it continues as busy as it always seems to be it's really only a matter of time.when that happens good luck getting in the viewing area .
I left Lincoln at 4am to get to see the mountain home f15e's leave for the sand pit and I wasn't the first there by a long way!

Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
I think it’s terrible if the council are going to do that and put logs all along the verges.
Been going to Lakenheath for 30 odd years and always parked there keeping out of the way and causing no trouble.
The viewing area is tiny and the verges can be used for loads of cars which can’t get in to it.
There’s gonna be a lot of hassle enforcing that lane when something decent turns up.
It’s a sad day for the aviation enthusiast.

A certain Bald short MOD Police officer, hasn't helped either he's been picking on people at both the viewing area and the forest side, he also stopped the Mako F-16 Pilots selling their Merch from their car, he was also the one parked up for 2 hours last summer on the verge, down towards the old derelict building, he seems to have nothing better to do.powerslave wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 7:09 pmI think it’s terrible if the council are going to do that and put logs all along the verges.

If people observe the law there shouldn't be any "hassle" - it will only be caused by those who want to be difficult!powerslave wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 7:09 pmI think it’s terrible if the council are going to do that and put logs all along the verges.

It's more of a sad day when so-called civilised enthusiasts cannot accept the restrictions imposed.
Causing problems may lead to the viewing area being closed altogether. It is a privilege not a right.
Again - only time will tell.

Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
I think the logs idea is daft - if you get a lorry coming down ( and you often do see the live stock juggernauts ) there will be nowhere for on coming cars or another lorry to pass - it will be a log jam. Occasionally a large lorry enters Lakenheath at the viewing area gate - restricting the verges could cause chaos.
We should not just accept restrictions - rights and rights of public access should be asserted. Too often for example, farmers try to make public rights of way hidden or made inaccessible.
By the way , in my experience the MOD plod are pretty good and very tolerant of spotters and especially of photographers and our ladders which would be unacceptable at a military airfield in nearly every other country. ( Also try putting a ladder against the fence at a civil airfield such as Heathrow or Gatwick and see what happens)
