Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2021 - General Discussion Thread
Very good news, hopefully by the middle of July enough have been given the jab, so that even those who may not have received it yet due to being in the last groups to get it (under 40 with no health conditions), will be safe.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2021 - General Discussion Thread
If we go back to the start of December the vaccine roll out was going to be FAR greater than it has been in practice.
And now the 'second dose' time limit has been extended so I think a realistic population full immunity is slipping away.
2021 will probably be not too different to this year I hate to say.
How I want to be wrong !

More good news. The USAF seem to be getting their vaccine out to their troops so the thought of all those disease ridden foreigners coming into FFD won't be a problem.

Foreign military isn't what concerns me.
What concerns me are the foreign members of the public that have jetted in from all four corners of the globe to attend!!

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2021 - General Discussion Thread
Taken almost 1 month to inject 600.000 with the new vaccine, now they have to inject all those again with a 2nd follow up jab.
If we can get the numbers to around 1million a month, that will be good. Around 70 million in the country so 70 months or about 6 years to get the job done.
There is going to be no way the vaccinate program will be done in time for a airshow in 7 months. We are in lockdown again and can see this being on now for the next 3 too 4 months in and out of tiers.
You are not going to organise a show like Riat in a short space of time.
Will be to many restrictions still to make it financially feasible.

The determinative factor for the 21 show going ahead I suggest is RAFCTE needing to commit to expenditure in advance. At some point they’ll need to block book hotels, secure infrastructure (grandstands, marquees, portaloos etc) and all the other things they need to pay for which make the show possible. It would be remiss of them to incur that expense unless they were pretty certain that they’d at the very least recoup the cost.
They will have decided a date for the go/no-go decision and I wish them the very best with it.

ONS states population of 66 million, as anyone under 16 apparently won't be vaccinated that leaves 53 million to vaccinate... NHS target is 1 million a week once the process builds up... so maybe at least a year to vaccinate everyone with at least 1 dose... given RIAT is only 7 months away many people would still not have been given their first dose by July.Richard B wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:09 pmTaken almost 1 month to inject 600.000 with the new vaccine, now they have to inject all those again with a 2nd follow up jab.

Why? they would be no more of a danger than you or I, in fact a lot of people who arrive from the some countries would be less likely to cause you a problem then your next door neighbor wouldred leader wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 6:07 pmForeign military isn't what concerns me.

You are aware than the vaccine does not give you Immunity , just helps you get less ill if you catch covidThe Cat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 4:56 pmIf we go back to the start of December the vaccine roll out was going to be FAR greater than it has been in practice.

and as there is no evidence yet that it blocks transmission or not why would anyone allow 50,000 people to gather and risk another surge
Football was allowed up to 2000 people in 70000 seat stadiums , so what for RIAT 4000/10000 at a maximum guess to adhere to social distancing that will be with us probably for a good 12 months more at least
I hope all is done and dusted sooner but I think we are in this for far longer than people think

Have to agree with pg1610, as much as I hope some sort of normality returns sooner rather than later I can't see RIAT 2021 going ahead give how much planning has to take place. I fear 2021 will also be largely a write off for most large participation events, hopefully the vaccination programme runs smoothly but given the way the whole pandemic has been handled so far its anybodies guess how things will pan out.

I kinda agree with you agree with you guys, as it stands now, I can't see RIAT going ahead 2021. The only way would be either if its in a Tier 1 area or if there's a mass vaccination of the population by Easter. Also this would be the time now when they need to start bidding and confirming aircraft. I think the best scenario would be that rather than letting 100k in that weekend, let say 20k in. But than would the displays be the same to justify the same amount of money as I don't see them reducing prices. RIAT shouldn't be selling tickets given how uncertain everything is. If they let RIAT go ahead that means that will have to let all outdoor events do the same.....Glastonbury etc
Let see what happens, might be wrong though.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2021 - General Discussion Thread
I doubt it will go ahead,
If the Fairford area goes into tier 1, and you live in a higher tier area you won't be allowed to go anyway. The organisers cannot run a show plan based on 2nd guessing where we are all going to be in Summer. The vaccinations will speed up as more people are trained as time goes on to administer the jabs. However, as a previous poster said There are around 70 million people in the UK requiring 2 jabs each.
There is no point in rushing and failing later. If the show has to be postponed again until 2022 then, sorry, but so be it.
I bought a ticket for this year, was disappointed when it was cancelled. But if it means keeping everyone out of harms way until next year then fine. Keep the money again and I'll go in 2022. They are welcome to whatever little bit of interest they can get on it.
Wish it was different !
Cheers

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2021 - General Discussion Thread
Sorry to put a dampner on things (some might say "as usual") but for some reason I just don't think there will be many Airshows on again this Year unfortunately.......
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2021 - General Discussion Thread
I think with the latest national lockdown and how things are looking if I was in charge I would reluctantly have to cancel for this year after I had done some investigation into a potential September date.
How I want to be wrong but the situation is worse than a year ago and the vaccine roll out doesn't give me much confidence in safeguarding enough of the population before the Summer.

Not about aeroplanes and aerodromes, but the music industry is on the cusp of cancelling 2021's festivals.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-55536355
"Events are "rapidly approaching the determination point", after which they'll have to pull the plug, said the Association of Independent Festivals."
[Lord Sacha] added that vaccinations and mass testing were essential to ensure the future of live music.
"Social distancing does not work at any of these events," he told MPs. "It's a festival. You just cannot put social distancing in place, so we are anticipating that we will be operating at 100% [capacity]."
"If we get as far as Easter and we still don't know that crowds can gather at festivals, however large or small, then we are in a catastrophic situation with this year's season," he said.

I'm curious to what you are 100% about after hearing the 9 o'clock news??
a) Attending RIAT 2021 - I think you'll very much be on your own at Fairford come July with no aircraft to see... see my post earlier in this thread dated 7th December

or
b) Your hair growing back? Well that kind of depends on how much money you're willing to spend on pills/transplants or a syrup of figs

For RIAT to go ahead this year would just be crazy , I certainly won't be attending. That's just me though .
