Looking forward to seeing that. In fact I can feel a 1:48 version coming on...

It’s 95% Black
was hoping for something a bit more outlandish in order to truly represent an enemy a/c.

Re: First Pic of the 'Aggressor' Typhoon breaks cover.
it will be interesting to see how a Typhoon can simulate the new Russian fighters, eg the SU-35 etc. DACT uses different types of aircraft to simulate different threats. In days gone by F-5's were used to simulate Migs.

This is the RAF we're talking about. I'm amazed they even did this. Looks very similar to my 20 year old Typhoon marketing model scheme although that had a light grey underside. The Phantom wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 6:16 amI thought the same. I think black is the highest contrast and thus most visible colour that can be used. That's why training aircraft such as the T2s have this scheme. Guess they can't be training for close in dogfighting 'lose sight - lose the fight'?
Re: First Pic of the 'Aggressor' Typhoon breaks cover.
If you go back into the mess on here you will probably find a mention of the original article that Typhoon Force Commander did with Aviation News nearly 2 years ago. And it mentioned that they won't be outlandish just a different version of the current scheme. 9 Sqn isn't just an aggressor unit so they aren't going to do schemes like the USAF/USN. Sorry to disappoint.verreli wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 7:19 amThis is the RAF we're talking about. I'm amazed they even did this. The black is probably to reduce the IR signature for BVR scenarios.

9sqn or the RAF should be looking into copyright approval for the "Batman" insignia for the tail of this jet, however I just hope we do get the standard 9sqn Green Bat added

Would look nicer with 9 Sqn markings applied
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.
Re: First Pic of the 'Aggressor' Typhoon breaks cover.
Reminds me of first UK prototype-DA2- when it was repainted.Although DA2 was ALL black
Re: First Pic of the 'Aggressor' Typhoon breaks cover.
Don't pilots do "dissimilar air combat training" rather than "identical-to-the enemy air combat training"? A black Typhoon looks "dissimilar" to a grey Typhoon which is what most RAF pilots are used to training with?
Re: First Pic of the 'Aggressor' Typhoon breaks cover.
Plain black or dark grey is a must for RAF Pilots so they can easily see the opposition, just like in real life!
It's hard to imagine the likes of ATAC & Draken (see links below) could get it soooo wrong.

Re: First Pic of the 'Aggressor' Typhoon breaks cover.
Hmm funny how not many Air Forces have painted their front line aircraft that colour. With one or 2 exceptions... Slovak MiG-29s, Pre production Russian Su-57s...

Re: First Pic of the 'Aggressor' Typhoon breaks cover.
How many countries have painted their frontline a/c Black?
Re: First Pic of the 'Aggressor' Typhoon breaks cover.
I guess someone from the RAF can comment but its apparently referred to as Shark Grey, so may not be black. Apart from a USAF F-16... MiG-28 anyone... ;-)
