Someone made the point later on in the day that when watching a Scottish BBC News Programme it was like the BBC were rubbing Edinburgh’s nose in it when showing the Reds at Prestwick.

I never watched it, but even if I had I don't see it that way. Prestwick footage is good PR stuff. Had the weather been better, you can bet it would have been Edinburgh footage aired.

Just our of interest did they mention the Red Arrows having to call off their Edinburgh Flypast on the VJ Day BBC Coverage Yesterday Morning, just I was up a Hill at the time hoping to see them - didn't of course.

Unsure. A friend said a Corstorphine Facebook page got the info out within minutes of the cancellation, so the news at least made it to Social Media pretty quick.

If anyone had been listening out they would have heard that they made a fairly valiant effort to make Edinburgh. As the cloud base was under 900' however this made the pass illegal and so they climbed to 5000' to transit to Prestwick. Just for the record, the tops of the Queensferry Crossing were just scraping the cloud base, they are 679' amsl !!! They made it as far as about North Berwick before the weather got them. The Flypast was in honour of VJ Day ....

Always wondered about height restrictions for a flypast such as this - from the perspective that the Castle stands high over the centre of Edinburgh, so assumed that would push the aircraft height up?

Proudscot, was on Corstorphine Hill which was quite busy at the vantage point with people hoping to see the Reds but all ended extremely disappointed one lady even pointed out she had got up early to come up and see the Reds FlyPast and was disappointed as we all were. Never realised the cloud base was that low.

Think One of the main reason we were disappointed is that we hardly ever see Red Arrows over Edinburgh.

The pass wouldn't have been illegal as the military are exempt from the Low Flying Rule. Doesn't mean it was a good idea though, hence the cancellation.

The good news is that the flypast has been rescheduled for Monday 24th August at 1900 Local.

Can confirm, weather permitting, Reds will be performing a flypast of Edinburgh Castle @1900.

The most recent transit they did to Valley, the NOTAM wasnt up until around 1hr before they were due to leave, and even then they didn't stick to the NOTAM route/timings.
Would think something would appear later today if it hasnt already.

The very night I can’t make Corstorphine Hill but will see if there’s another way I can get a glimpse of them = might see them from my window.
