Another article still interesting how stay in the UK is the wording and not stay at mildenhall. Also nothing was said about the base not closing in the speech just that the personnel and squadrons will remain in the UK.

No way am I an expert on these matters, but assume that Mildenhall has a large fuel storage facility to service the Tankers. If they are moved elsewhere in the UK that would have be replicated(installed) at the chosen Base. Slightly off topic, with the F16's moving to Aviano, are they going to become part of the 31st FW?

That’s correct yes, the only other option is Fairford which is an ex tanker base anyway and already has kc135 hangars and a very large fuel store plus piped in fuel. But of course the may remain at the Hall but until it’s stated otherwise it’s still due to close in 2027.

Fairford is connected to the largest fuel supply pipeline in the country and services Brize Fairford and use to service Lyneham. Still at least they are staying in the UK.

Still due to close 2027 is not true. The statement coming out of HQ is that the closure is reversed.

They will be very soon last week they were using a bobcat to take down an area of the fence by the usual RIAT red gate entrance on my last visit a new gate has been created with blast proof walls on either side of this entrance presumably so checks can be carried out on civilian construction vehicles for any ordnance. In addition to this green cones have been placed around the site with yellow AA signs saying for construction traffic to follow the cone marked route.

But of course that is the Newmaket Journal, and not an official Air Force statement, or at least is how I interpret it.....

Depends where you work doesn't it? Needless to say there is a lot more official chatter than non official.

Excellent news for Mildenhall and definitely for us enthusiasts!

If only the SP F-16s would be moved over to the UK. Now that would be brilliant.

This from the East Anglian Daily Times, which to me simply reiterates what has been said on here, i.e. that the Defense Secretary's statement would seem to imply that the base will not close. No firm statem, ent to that effect: https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/pentagon-an ... -1-6771373

This from the BBC seems to have a bit more gravitas as it quotes a USAF Captain: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-53606937
