Planes spotters at Kemble despite lockdown

Really, just really what is the matter with these few Idiots that will spoil this for all military and civvy spotters by giving us all a bad reputation. Someone should have called the police and fined the lot!. Rant over.

Sadly this will continue to happen when potential movements at any airfield are posted in due lists. Time to consider whether they should be published at all. There have always been idiots in this hobby who are only interested in "the number"!

And... if they were really interesting aircraft, which you might be able to see only “once in a lifetime” I could understand.... but they were BA747’s. Go to Heathrow on a normal day and you couldn’t even bother

Sadly with any hobby there will always be a minority who will flout any rules for their own ends. Can only hope some vehicle registrations were noted.

Heard on the grape vine that some civvy spotters were fined after being caught at Hurn spotting BA B747 s ! serves them right

There is no upper age limit for applying to the police service, but bear in mind that the normal retirement age is 60 years and that new constable recruits are required to undertake a two year probationary period.

I agree that they were probably just spectators rather than number crunchers who wouldn't chase BA Jumbos.

It also bugs me that BA choose this moment to store redundant aircraft - is that deemed essential travel by the crew and the Kemble ground crew? I understand BA would probably say these aircraft have to be stored for logistical reasons etc but why is Kemble even open? I think the main point of my question is to highlight again that we are not in a proper lockdown - many businesses are finding reasons to open for business - nearly all forms of work are interconnected and can be deemed essential. As far as I can see it is only pubs, schools, some shops and retired people who are staying at home.

Kemble aka Cotswolds Airport has said it is closed for everything other than the aforementioned 747 disposals that were delivered last week. Thats from the owner.

And here is the issue. If you start making exemptions for 'once in a lifetime' then there is no point in having restrictions at all. Yes it might suck, but does missing out on seeing an aeroplane really matter in the grand scheme of things?

Businesses still have to operate, and if parking some 747's at Kemble is a cheaper option than keeping them elsewhere then why would you take the more expensive option, especially in these times. The government guidance is work from home if you can, unfortunately I don't think you can land a 747 in your back garden.

Unless its taking up space at Heathrow that could be used by other aircraft.

And last I looked the maintenance area isn't that big, they are probably being charged parking fees as well.

A lot of other airlines are making tough decisions as well as BA

But this isn't just a 3 day week, oil shortage etc I thought we were in a National Emergency - stay at home. Chop up your jumbo another time.

This is why some people don't take the lock down seriously - they see people going about their normal business and think well if they are going to work at Kemble , for example , then I can take the family out for a ride to the local airfield for a couple of hours.

I didn't realize that non essential work could still happen - sounds daft to me as the disease can only spread via person to person contact.

Well, keeping everyone at home with “non-essential” jobs is quite a drastisch measure. Since most work is essential in one way or another. If it wasn’t essential, it wouldn’t have to be a job at all. And it would bring the whole economy to a standstill, which would only worsen the total crisis even further.
